We have Maverick running in Xen quite extensively. We use debootstrap
images with normal grub (not pvgrub), i.e. we are passing a full HD
image to Xen (and I know we aren't the only ones to do this). We do
however modify /etc/fstab etc., and aren't using -virtual (I think we
use -server) precisely

OK - so it looks like the filesystem associated with instance-0006
had been remounted ro due to some sort of underlying IO error.
However this has highlighted that if nova-common is upgraded whilst
there are running lxc instances the filesystem permissions within the
root filesystem
I'm a bit confused, maybe someone can clarify this.
At https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/3/25/54 it is mentioned that there still
exists a underlying bug with kvmclock. I assume that this is not fixed
in 2.6.38-11.50. Is it fixed in newer kernels? I assume that older
kernels (like the one in lucid) are

a.) nova-compute.conf is world readable and root owned. that may not be
an issue.
I'm not sure if this is by design, but currently the only flag contained
in nova-compute.conf is '--libvirt_type='. nova.conf usually contains
credentials for accessing things like the database and messaging queue.
Actually this libvirt debdiff may be a better solution. I'm going to
send it to upstream libvirt (cc: openstack) for comment.

Looks like the story is not over, and much more intel chipsets are
reported to be involved to the bug, Heasley[1] found the below intel
sata chipsets have the same problem:

I have the same bug installing nightly build (September 27, 2011). Cheese and
Synaptic preferences dialog box, and others. It looks like this in my install,
too.
