[Bug 1834771] Re: No HDMI-audio after kernel 4.15.-0.50

2019-10-03 Thread Rolando Gorgs
I'm also affected by this bug under Linux Mint 19.2 and with Radeon RX 580
(amdgpu driver).
With all new Kernels from 5.0.0-16 on my HDMI monitor isn't recognized as
"plugged in" and I don't have audio output. Pavucontrol shows all available
HDMI imputs as "unplugged".

Going back to 5.0.0-15 Kernel fixes the issue for me but this cannot be
a long term solution. Over the last months I searched a lot in different
Ubuntu/Linux Mint forums and found many people having this exact issue.
All of them with amd graphics.

Finally found the root of this problem: This faulty behavior seems to be
introduced with this bugfix:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1827967

All Kernels from 5.0.0-16, 4.15.0-51 and 4.18.0-21 on are affected. In
forums I found examples of all three Kernels.

reply #26:

As I (and probably also Gary Altenberg - #24) don't have any Nvidia
chips along our amd graphics, I have no idea how the nvidia proprietary
driver could help. ;-)

If I understand the bug description of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1827967 correctly,
the problem was that there were some unnecessary sound devices that
could confuse users. In fact, the patch might have broken hdmi sound
output for most amd graphics users by removing all of the entries.

Please fix that issue or if not possible revert the change! Having some
unnecessary entries to chose from is better than having no sound at all.
:-)

Here are two examples of affected user from forums (but you can find many more):

-

[Bug 1846371] Re: firefox 70.0 beta 11 isn't fully translated

2019-10-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
strace reveals that disabling and enabling again a language pack doesn't
result in opening and reading the corresponding langpack xpi again. The
file is initially opened and mapped in memory at application startup. So
this problem isn't caused by a race condition when reading the xpi at
startup.

[Bug 1846665] Re: Please include 'fcitx-table-cangjie3' by default in Xubuntu and Ubuntu Studio

2019-10-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1846665/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1846667] [NEW] palm detection is borked on 19.10

2019-10-03 Thread tom
Public bug reported:

Dell XPS 9560, palm detection was good in previous Ubuntus, but the
update made it go really awful. Constant accidental un-minimization,
cursor jumping in text fields, etc. I have set palm detection to true in
settings, but it hasn't seemed to do anything. In previous releases, I
don't think I even set that setting, it just worked out of the box.

[Bug 1846503] Re: Installing just one extension makes Ubuntu Eoan to fail

2019-10-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unfortunately extensions have free access to everything in the shell and
so can easily break any part of the shell.

Why this problem only affects Ubuntu is likely related to Ubuntu-
specific changes. That does not suggest those Ubuntu changes are faulty,
only different to the other distros.

Since the extension 'desktop-icons-ng-ding' is not part of Ubuntu we are
unable to track bugs related to it here.

[Bug 1846612] Re: Unable to launch Caja file manager on GNOME Shell

2019-10-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like Caja is trying to fulfill a role that some other
component is already registered for.

This would not be a bug in gnome-shell. You would need to find out what
other package/component is conflicting and find a way to disable or
uninstall it.

[Bug 1846665] [NEW] Please include 'fcitx-table-cangjie3' by default in Xubuntu and Ubuntu Studio

2019-10-03 Thread Walter Cheuk
Public bug reported:

[needs-packaging] fcitx-table-cangjie3

URL: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fcitx

Please include 'fcitx-table-cangjie3' package by default in the Ubuntu
derivative that is using Fcitx as the default input method (i.e. Xubuntu
and Ubuntu Studio), or at least when the user select 'Chinese
(Traditional)' during installation.

Cangjie3 is the most used Chinese input method in Hong Kong (it's
similar to that provided in M$ windows). As Chinese in Hong Kong also
use Traditional Chinese, it should be included for their convenience
(There is no 'Chinese (Hong Kong)' option during installation, only
'Chinese (Traditional)' which is mainly biased for Taiwan).

2019-10-03 Thread Ross McLean
I notice that after the upgrade from 19.04 to 19.10, the 'libvirt' user
account is no longer visible in LightDm. Could this be related? Maybe
somehow access to the libvirt account is broken.

Fix DetachedInstanceError for VolumeAttachment

Patch I253123d5451b32f0e3143916e41aaa1af75561c2 fixed the
DetachedInstanceError for VolumeAttachment OVOs but only partially, as
apparently it was dependent on the SQLAlchemy version due to the use os
"hasattr".

This patch replaces "hasattr" with a check on the object's dictionary,
which will never trigger a Lazy Load.

[Bug 1846485] Re: lttng causes crash with 5.0 based kernel

2019-10-03 Thread Matthew Ruffell
This bug is a duplicate of Bug 1841766.

There is currently a package in -proposed, lttng-modules
2.10.8-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 which fixes this problem on bionic.
It has been in -proposed for quite some time, waiting on verification for Bug
1841766 and Bug 1813062.

I tested lttng-modules 2.10.8-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 across various kernels to ensure
the package is fixed in kernel 5.0, and does not cause any regressions in
kernel 4.15.
My tests were successful and I verified Bug 1841766.

I performed autopkgtest for Bug 1813062 and it was successful, and
marked Bug 1813062 as verified.

In addition, I also performed tests with linux-azure 5.0.0-1020-azure
#21~18.04.1-Ubuntu and lttng-modules 2.10.8-1ubuntu1~18.04.1.
They were successful and lttng-modules works as expected.

Hopefully the package in -proposed is now unstuck, and will be promoted
to -updates shortly.

[Bug 1841766] Re: ubuntu_lttng_smoke_test crash with B-5.0 AWS/Azure/GCP

2019-10-03 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Bug 1846485 was opened by a customer as a duplicate of this Bug,
1841766.

I did the following testing on bionic:

Kernel 4.15.0-65-generic with lttng-modules 2.10.5-1ubuntu1.3
Functions as intended.

Kernel 5.0.0-29-hwe with lttng-modules 2.10.5-1ubuntu1.3
Reproduced page faults kernel oops documented in Bug 1841766 and Bug 1846485.

Kernel 5.0.0-29-hwe with lttng-modules 2.10.8-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 from -proposed
Everything functions as intended, verified package from -proposed fixes the
problem.

Kernel 4.15.0-65-generic with lttng-modules 2.10.8-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 from
-proposed
Everything functions as intended, verified package from -proposed does not
introduce any obvious regressions.

lttng-modules 2.10.8-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 seems to be waiting on Bug 1813062 to be
verified to be promoted to -updates, and I have successfully ran autopkgtest.
I will mark that bug as verified as well.

[Bug 1813062] Re: lttng-modules 2.10.8-1 ADT test failure with linux 5.0.0-1.2

2019-10-03 Thread Matthew Ruffell
I installed kernel 5.0.0-29-hwe on bionic, and manually ran autopkgtest for
lttng-modules 2.10.8-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 from -proposed.

autopkgtest passed, as seen with: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/pgYcXq2WJx/

Additionally, autopkgtest passed when lttng-modules 2.10.8-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 was
initially uploaded to -proposed, as seen with:
https://objectstorage.prodstack4-5.canonical.com/v1/AUTH_77e2ada1e7a84929a74ba3b87153c0ac/autopkgtest-bionic/bionic/amd64/l/lttng-modules/20190829_201311_3af2e@/log.gz

Marking this as verified, hopefully letting lttng-modules
2.10.8-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 be promoted to -updates to fix Bug 1846485 and
Bug 1841766.

Hello!

I noticed that since Linux 5.2rc2 audio playback no longer works on Dell
Venue 11 Pro 7140 (Intel Core M-5Y71; rt286). Turns out that happened
because SND_SOC_SOF_BROADWELL_SUPPORT was enabled in kernel binary
builds since 5.2rc2: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-

To verify this assumption I tested two builds of Linux 5.3.1.
1. Build with enabled SND_SOC_SOF_BROADWELL_SUPPORT from
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.3.1/

[Bug 1670291] Re: Landscape: Upgrade 14.04.5 to 16.04.2 fails unable to reboot

2019-10-03 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
@kat-amsterdam

The fixes we are introducing are for upgrades to 18.04, which by default
is not possible from 14.04.

Upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 (trusty to xenial) has already been fixed a
while back in landscape client, thus if one uses uptodate client,
upgrades should succeed and reboot without any issues.

[Bug 1836823] Re: python-acme will break on November 1st

2019-10-03 Thread Brad Warren
To summarize some conversation that happened in the #certbot-dev IRC
channel on Freenode to make sure everyone sees it, the python-
cryptography and python-idna requirements come from python-acme's
dependency on requests "security" extras which we declare at
https://github.com/certbot/certbot/blob/v0.31.0/acme/setup.py#L20. These
are extra security features which python-requests has but to use them,
you need additional dependencies.

To express this, our Debian package maintainer lifted requests'
dependencies out of the python-requests package and into the python-acme
package, but the requirements for the version of python-requests in
Debian and Ubuntu Xenial are different. The requirements for requests
"security" extras for the version in Xenial are
https://github.com/psf/requests/blob/v2.9.1/setup.py#L72.

To express this, I think for both python and python3:

* The cryptography requirement should be relaxed to >=1.2.3 to match the
requirement from python-acme:
https://github.com/certbot/certbot/blob/v0.31.0/acme/setup.py#L12
* The ndg-httpsclient and pyasn1 dependency should be added back.
* The idna dependency should be removed.

I also think it's worth noting that the version of python-acme currently
in Xenial has this same requirement on requests "security" extras:

[Bug 1845373] Re: Problem with wine

2019-10-03 Thread jre
Thanks.

Not sure what the reason is.

You might be missing some libraries. Please check in your package manager that
you have all needed video driver packages installed. You should find them in
the dependencies of e.g. libwine:i386 or (probably, since I don't exactly know
winehq's packages) wine-staging-i386.
I assume you especially need:
libgl1:i386
libgl1-mesa-dri:i386
libgl1-mesa-glx:i386
libwine only "recommends" them, so in some non-default setups they may be
missing.

You may also try wine or wine-development from the Ubuntu archives (the
package this bug got reassigned to). You haven't installed their "main"
packages, so you have to "apt purge winehq-staging && apt install wine".
Verify with "wine --version" that the correct version gets executed.

Otherwise this may be a problem of Wine itself. Since you are using
wine-staging (from winehq.org) anyways, you might report this issue at
https://bugs.winehq.org/. Then please report the bugnumber here.

And if all of the above don't help, this might be an issue in another
package, e.g. a regression in some opengl package - then this bug needs
to be reassigned again.

[Bug 1742443] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: PrtSc doesn't trigger gnome-screenshot window

2019-10-03 Thread Gmgarciam

Ubuntu 18.04 with Unity and Nvidia Drivers. It works fine when I use
