- when its done, close update-manager

[Bug 1890435] Re: gcc-10 breaks on armhf (flaky): internal compiler error: Segmentation fault

2020-11-25 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
r10-6080 now had 10 good runs.

I'm going back to test 20200507 next - we had bad states with that
version so often this MUST trigger IMHO,

Reminder this runs on in armhf LXD containers on arm64 VMs (like our builds do).
I'm slowly getting the feeling it could be an issue with the underlying
virtualization or bare metal.
We had a datacenter move, so the cloud runs on the same bare metal overall, but
my instance could run on something else today than last week. If 20200507 no
more triggers we have to investigate where the code is running.

[Bug 1905674] [NEW] libvirt snapshots specifying --memspec need apparmor support

2020-11-25 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

In a similar way as we found in bug 1845506 that multiple disks can kill
the rules for each other the rarely used snapshot option --memspec has
issues as well.

If used the flow reaches access to the disks before rules are added (maybe none
are added for memspec, but the failing one is on the actual snapshot, which
works without --memspec.
So a rule that would be created isn't in this case at the time access starts.

Repro:
#1 get a guest
$ uvt-kvm create --host-passthrough --password=ubuntu h-test release=hirsute
arch=amd64 label=daily
# get rid of secondary disk (otherwise we'd need to back that up as well)
$ virsh detach-disk h-test vdb
$ virsh snapshot-create-as --domain h-test --name h-test-snap --diskspec
vda,snapshot=external,file=/var/lib/uvtool/libvirt/images/h-test.qcow.snapshot
--memspec snapshot=external,file=/var/lib/uvtool/libvirt/images/h-test2.mem
--print-xml

Denial:
[3006813.872572] audit: type=1400 audit(1606374248.321:6198): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="open" namespace="root//lxd-f_"
profile="libvirt-8f8dce51-0abb-470f-a5b1-dd11393cc0c8"
name="/var/lib/uvtool/libvirt/images/h-test2.qcow.snapshot" pid=1014838
comm="qemu-system-x86" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=64055 ouid=64055

IMHO this is super uncommon (exists for years and had no report yet),
but if one is affected you'd need to add an override either for all
guests (/etc/apparmor.d/local/abstractions/libvirt-qemu) or an
individual guest (/etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/libvirt-)

Due to that prio is IMHO low, but this bug shall help if people search
the net for it and be a place to chime in outlining why this use-case is
more important than we think atm.

Hi There,

I took a snapshot, then I went ahead and clicked 'Continued without

Everything restarted and came back up just fine, so it was okay to just
continue in my case. Everything seems happy now. Not sure what the
actual underlying issue is/was but the system is running stable.

Let me hijack my own bug report to declare that the dstat source used by

Please consider

for replacing it.

2020-11-25 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
mook765, that's because you manually modified the file. Anytime you do
this to any file in /etc, dpkg knows not to modify those files since it
might be a custom configuration. You might have to use this:

sudo apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::="--force-overwrite" install
ubuntustudio-menu

-or, if you downloaded the .deb file-

sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite ubuntustudio-menu.deb

[Bug 1758512] Re: No virtual terminals (CTRL+ALT+F?) when no user logged in; erratic behaviour when user logged in.

2020-11-25 Thread Ilya w495 Nikitin
I can reproduce it but only in:
* GNOME Shell 3.36.4
* KDE Plasma Shell 5.18.5

But in XFCE, LXDE, LXQT, MATE and others ++ works fine
for me.

At first, I've tried to use `sudo chvt 2` for switching form KDE on tty1 to Raw
Console on tty2. After switching to tty2 ++ works as in early
days.
It doesn't depends on video drivers or kernel flags and etc. For my laptop I've
got the same for nvidia:455.38 and for i915, with modeset and with nomodset,
with GFX grub mode and without.

But I guess, this is not a system or hardware problem, because there are no any
troubles with small environments. So after some research I found, that you can
use `sudo kbd_mode`.

So for me `sudo kbd_mode -af` works fine without reboot.

* Laptop: DellXps 15 9570 4K Touch
* Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04
* Kernel Version: 5.8.0-7630-generic #32~1605108853~20.04~8bcf10e~dev-Ubuntu
(from system76)
* OS Type: 64-bit
* Processors: 12 × Intel® Core™ i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz
* Memory: 15,4 Gib

Unfortunately I cannot find `DontVTSwitch` option in xorg.conf-like all-over
the system, as was said for example here:
*
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/34158/rebinding-disabling-ctrlaltf-virtual-terminal-console-switching

I think it'll be better solution.

The solution of Fredrik Öhrström (oehrstroem) also sounds great.

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-11-25 Thread Pedro Ribeiro
Again my apologies to everyone for hijacking this thread, But since
people are asking, and I was able to solve the backlight problem after
days of pain, here are the instructions. Two caveats though:

- you need to have the laptop in "Discrete" mode in the BIOS (in my experience,
Hybrid mode gives little battery life advantage, even in Windows)
- the instructions below are for Debian, but the only different thing to have
in mind is the /experimental release in the apt install command, which should
be adapted to the Ubuntu release you want to install the drivers from

1. make sure that you remove all nvidia stuff:
apt --purge remove nvidia*
(this includes any nvidia configuration files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d)

2. install the proprietary nvidia driver version you want (replace experimental
with the target release)
sudo apt install libegl-nvidia0/experimental
libgl1-nvidia-glvnd-glx/experimental libglx-nvidia0/experimental
libnvidia-eglcore/experimental libnvidia-glcore/experimental
libnvidia-ml1/experimental nvidia-alternative/experimental
nvidia-driver/experimental nvidia-driver-bin/experimental
nvidia-driver-libs/experimental nvidia-egl-common/experimental
nvidia-egl-icd/experimental nvidia-kernel-dkms/experimental
nvidia-kernel-support/experimental nvidia-modprobe/experimental
nvidia-vdpau-driver/experimental xserver-xorg-video-nvidia/experimental
libgles-nvidia1/experimental libgles-nvidia2/experimental
nvidia-vulkan-icd/experimental libnvidia-cfg1/experimental
libcuda1/experimental libnvcuvid1/experimental libnvidia-encode1/experimental
nvidia-opencl-icd/experimental nvidia-smi/experimental
libnvidia-cbl/experimental libnvidia-rtcore/experimental
nvidia-cuda-mps/experimental libnvidia-ptxjitcompiler1/experimental
libnvidia-compiler/experimental libnvidia-glvkspirv/experimental nvidia-settings

3. create a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/21-nvidia-brightness.conf with the
following contents:
Section "OutputClass"
Identifier "nvidia"
MatchDriver "nvidia-drm"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
EndSection

4. reboot and backlight control should be working!

[Bug 1905555] Re: Xserver crash at start , black screen , 20.04 , Intel HD620

2020-11-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1868703] Re: Support "ad_use_ldaps" flag for new AD requirements (ADV190023)

2020-11-25 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Verification for sssd on Focal:

The customer tested sssd from -updates, version 2.2.3-3 and the package
from -proposed, version 2.2.3-3ubuntu0.1.

Begins:

I have successfully tested the [package from -proposed] on Ubuntu
20.04.1.

Before applying the patch [package from -proposed] I confirmed open
ports to our domain controllers using ss and grepping for the DC IPs.
Before the patch 389 and 3268 were being actively used.

After the patch [installing the package from -proposed] (and after
running a few user queries with `id`) ports 636 and 3269 were being
used.

Ends.

This matches my testing and testing Tobias has done, so happy to mark
sssd as verified for Focal.

[Bug 1898786] Re: bcache: Issues with large IO wait in bch_mca_scan() when shrinker is enabled

2020-11-25 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Performing verification for Bionic.

Since Benjamin hasn't responded, I will try and verify the best I can.

I made a instance on AWS. I used a c5d.large instance type, and added
8gb extra EBS storage.

I installed the latest kernel from -updates to get a performance
baseline. kernel is 4.15.0-124-generic.

I made a bcache disk with the following.

Note, the 8gb disk was used as the cache disk, and the 50gb disk the
backing disk. Having the cache small is to try force cache evictions
often, and possibly try trigger the bug.

$ lsblk
NAMEMAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
nvme1n1 259:00 46.6G  0 disk
nvme0n1 259:108G  0 disk

$ sudo apt install bcache-tools
$ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/nvme0n1 bs=512 count=8
$ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/nvme1n1 bs=512 count=8
$ sudo wipefs -a /dev/nvme0n1
$ sudo wipefs -a /dev/nvme1n1
$ sudo make-bcache -C /dev/nvme0n1 -B /dev/nvme1n1

$ sudo mkdir /media/bcache
$ sudo mount /dev/bcache0 /media/bcache
$ echo "/dev/bcache0 /media/bcache ext4 rw 0 0" | sudo tee -a /etc/fstab

>From there, I installed fio to do some benchmarks, and to try apply some
IO pressure to the cache.

$ sudo apt install fio

I used the following fio jobfile:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/RNBmXdy3zG/

It is based on the ssd test in:
https://github.com/axboe/fio/blob/master/examples/ssd-test.fio

Running the fio job gives us the following output:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/ghkQcyT2sv/

Now we have the baseline, I enabled -proposed and installed
4.15.0-125-generic and rebooted.

I started the fio job again, and got the following output:

# uname -rv
4.15.0-125-generic #128-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 9 20:51:00 UTC 2020

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/DSTnKvXMGZ/

If you compare the two outputs, there really isn't much difference in
latencies / read / write speeds. The bcache patches don't seem to cause
any large impacts.

I managed to set up a bcache disk, and did some IO stress tests. Things
seem to be okay.

Since we had positive test results on the test kernel on the Launchpad
git server, and the above shows we don't appear to have any regressions,
I will mark this bug as verified for Bionic.

[Bug 1905654] [NEW] rakudo package has broken symlinks (raku and raku-debug)

After installing rakudo package, I got two broken symbolic links:

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1904906] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2020-11-25 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From daniel.axte...@ibm.com 2020-11-25 21:40 EDT---
Ok, so sadly I cannot find a tarball with the patches not already applied,
which is very frustrating. However, it turns out I don't need that because, as
it turns out...

Doing an upstream checkout of v5.10-rc4 and building with
config-5.10.0-4-generic also fails to boot under qemu. Previously I
hadn't tested upstream with a Canoni-config, so I thought it was an
ubuntu-specific bug, which clearly it is not. Apologies about that.

It also affects 5.10-rc5 and powerpc/fixes, so I'm trying to get some
eyes on it internally.

Kind regards,
Daniel

[Bug 1905114] Re: Lenovo System Firmware update will not download or install and Impress 7.0 crashes

2020-11-25 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Lillian, I suggest running the firmware update tool by hand to see
if there's more information available there:

sudo fwupdmgr update

I'm not sure what to suggest for libreoffice; perhaps
https://askubuntu.com/ would be a place to get more advice on how to
work with imports or exports to other formats.

Thanks

Please disable Ubuntu Dock in the Extensions app and then tell us if

[Bug 1898786] Re: bcache: Issues with large IO wait in bch_mca_scan() when shrinker is enabled

2020-11-25 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Performing verification for Focal.

Since Benjamin hasn't responded, I will try and verify the best I can.

I made a instance on AWS. I used a c5d.large instance type, and added
8gb extra EBS storage.

I installed the latest kernel from -updates to get a performance
baseline. kernel is 5.4.0-54-generic.

I made a bcache disk with the following.

Note, the 8gb disk was used as the cache disk, and the 50gb disk the
backing disk. Having the cache small is to try force cache evictions
often, and possibly try trigger the bug.

>From there, I installed fio to do some benchmarks, and to try apply some
IO pressure to the cache.

$ sudo apt install fio

I used the following fio jobfile:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/RNBmXdy3zG/

It is based on the ssd test in:
https://github.com/axboe/fio/blob/master/examples/ssd-test.fio

Running the fio job gives us the following output:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/HrWGNDJPfv/

Now we have the baseline, I enabled -proposed and installed
5.4.0-55-generic and rebooted.

I started the fio job again, and got the following output:

# uname -rv
5.4.0-55-generic #61-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 9 20:49:56 UTC 2020

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/pDVXnspmvs/

If you compare the two outputs, there really isn't much difference in
latencies / read / write speeds. The bcache patches don't seem to cause
any large impacts.

I managed to set up a bcache disk, and did some IO stress tests. Things
seem to be okay.

Since we had positive test results on the test kernel on the Launchpad
git server, and the above shows we don't appear to have any regressions,
I will mark this bug as verified for Focal.

[Bug 1905648] [NEW] fractional display scale cannot work properly

2020-11-25 Thread Guo Le
Public bug reported:

When I switch on fractional scaling, and choose 125%/150%/175%,
everything gets very large. The screen can only display part of the
whole desktop. It is even larger than the 200%-scale.

P.S.
As I remember, the fractional scaling works well in May. But after a update in
May (forgot the exact date), fractional scaling cannot work properly anymore.
After that update, I can just use 200% scale setting. I'm so sorry to report
this bug so late.
Also, I tested both with only the builtin screen and with an external monitor
in 'Join Display' mode.

[Bug 1865566] Re: Large Page support disabled on Raspberry Pi kernels

2020-11-25 Thread Marc Doughty
I don't have the links to document it right now, but it looks like the
'raspi' kernels forked from generic arm64 ones while there was a bug
involving Transparent Huge Pages that warranted turning them off. That
bug is long-fixed in arm64, but the raspi kernels appear to be keeping
it as a vestigial workaround to a bug that doesn't exist.

I've done some testing of raspi kernels where the config is changed back
to enabling THP with 'madvise', and it works beautifully.

[Bug 1905630] Re: [SRU] Cinnamon and applications won't run a sh script if the directory has spaces in its name

2020-11-25 Thread Joshua Peisach
** Description changed:

- If you try running a shell script in a terminal, and if the directory
- has spaces in it (e.g. 'test name' compared to 'test-name', then the
- shell script will not run.
+ [Impact]

- This isn't an app specific thing-but rather something in the desktop
- schemas as the executing argument for the default-terminal would be
- 'default-terminal -x' when it should be --.
+ * When running a shell script in a directory named with a space ('test
+ name' compared to 'test-name'), the default selected terminal will not
+ run.

- This will be an SRU. Template will be filled out as I go along
+ * A typical issue found when trying to run it in a directory with the
+ name of a space is saying "no such file or directory" (yes this also
+ includes if the shell script name has spaces in it too)
+
+ * It should basically work anyways.
+
+ * It runs (default terminal) -x, but it should run -- instead. GNOME
+ Terminal is mostly used for Cinnamon. Also in gnome-terminal using -x is
+ deprecated.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Create a new directory, or go inside a directory. If creating, make
+ the directory have a space in there (e.g. 'sru test')
+
+ * Create a shell script, say "echo apple &" or something
+
+ * if you didn't make the directory have a space in it's name have the
+ shell script have a space in its name
+
+ * Make the script an executable and execute
+
+  * Terminal should fail (use gnome-terminal i suggest)
+
+ [Where problems could occur/Regression Potential]
+
+ * While there isn't too much of a risk, there is quite some factors.
+
+ * With terminals updating, there can be options that don't support the

review and then when the fix is released and out of -proposed we can test
groovy.

[Bug 1905637] [NEW] Games don't go full screen correctly with new version of libmutter

2020-11-25 Thread Marcos Alano
Public bug reported:

Some games (I tried Portal and Tomb Raider 2013) don't go full screen
correctly. I tracked down this to a regression on package libmutter-7-0.
Tee problem occurs with latest version, 3.38.1-2ubuntu1, but when I
downgrade the package (and also the package gir1.2-mutter-7) to
3.38.1-1ubuntu1 all works correctly.

I'm using Ubuntu 20.10.

** Affects: mutter (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1905109] Re: Setting session.cookie_samesite=None in php ini does not set attribute of session samesite

2020-11-25 Thread Bob Tanner
If this php7.2 bug is not fixed the changes to cookies defaults in
Chrome 80+ breaks many sites.

Like a webhook call back from PayPal (my problem) but any web site the
requires SameSite=None will be broken.
