[Bug 791522] Re: Debconf really_stop default value break unattended upgrades

2011-06-06 Thread Nafallo Bjälevik
I would argue this is a feature.

In most environments were quagga is run you really really don't want an
uncontrolled start/stop of the services this provides.

[Bug 791522] Re: Debconf really_stop default value break unattended upgrades

2011-06-06 Thread Michael Vogt
This sounds like unattended-upgrades should just add this to its
blacklist by default and only notify about it but leave it to the admin
to actually perform the upgrade of this package. OTOH however this would
mean that when people explictely use really_stop = true it would still
not get upgraded. If that is really really rare, then I think the
tradeoff is sensible and its better to blacklist then to fail.

[Bug 783864] Re: need a versioned depend on vgabios

2011-06-06 Thread Martin Pitt
This SRU seems quite pointless to me: it does not fix anything for natty
users, as the vgabios version is recent enoug there. Why is it worth
spending the effort of preparing, building, and QAing this, and having a
nonzero regression risk? Oneiric has the versioned dependency, so
backports will have it, too. For the theoretical case of a natty-lucid
backport, the dependency can be added for the backport upload.

[Bug 251795] [NEW] /etc/environment PATH should not have quotes

2011-06-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

installed 8.04 server edition on a desktop and 8.04.1 desktop edition on
a laptop, both fully updated.

both have the line
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games
inside /etc/environment

while this works for 99% of the time these days, in some rare cases, the
quotes are taken literally and the string isn't fully expanded.

specifically, using rsh/rlogin (even more specifically, I'm using the
kerberized versions in krb5-clients package) on a server results in the
PATH actually being
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games,
i.e. one long invalid directory, instead of expanded version,
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games
(6 separate directories).

again, this isn't a problem for most use cases like a regular bash login
or ssh, since they seem to evaluate it down to what's valid, but there
doesn't seem to be any real reason to have the quotes in there?

some may not even notice it being incorrect after rlogin, since the bash
invalid command fallback will fill in most usual locations like
/usr/bin. however try running something in /usr/games, like say...
banner and it will complain.

solution is to just remove the two characters in the line. works for
me.

[Bug 251795] Re: /etc/environment PATH should not have quotes

2011-06-06 Thread Steve Langasek
This behavior has persisted in /etc/environment now for at least 3
years, with only one report of misbehavior as a result. I don't believe
it's worth the effort to try to correct this now and risk getting
inconsistent behavior on upgraded vs. newly-installed systems,
especially as pam_env, which owns /etc/environment, *does* parse out the
quotes from variable assignments.

If something else is reading /etc/environment directly, bypassing
pam_env, and parsing it differently than pam_env itself does, then as
Colin says, this is a bug in that component. I'm therefore reassigning
this bug report to the krb5 package, as this needs to be fixed in krb5
-rsh-server.

[Bug 451314] Re: [SRU] PHP 5.2.10 zlib bug remains for 32bit

2011-06-06 Thread lsga
hi. I'm using Magento (most used eCommerce framework in the world...)
Magento does not work with PHP 5.3 (as many CMS and frameworks).

So, as many people, I needed to downgrade to PHP 5.2.10 with the very popular
trick :
http://dustyreagan.com/downgrade-php-5-3-to-5-2/comment-page-1/

But now, I have the gzopen bug.
I'm a webdevelopper, not a sysadmin. I use Ubuntu because it suppose to be
'easy to use'. I felt yet difficult and weird the downgrading of PHP.

Now, what I'm suppose to do for Ubuntu being able to run Magento ?
Could you please explain in a 'step by step way' how to fix the gzopen() bug ?

thanks.

Re: [Bug 251795] Re: /etc/environment PATH should not have quotes

2011-06-06 Thread Sam Hartman
So, fixing this particular bug in krb5-rsh-server is almost certainly
relatively easy. Fixing krb5-rsh-server to use PAM directly is more
involved; it should be done, but there is not a lot of resources going
into krb5-rsh-server and krb5-clients at the moment. Upstream split
these into the krb5-appl package in significant part to provide a lower
level of support for these packages.

The code in question is in bsd/login.c in the krb5-appl
package. Particularly, look at the read_env_vars_from_file function.
I don't have time right now to generate a patch or test it, but I wanted
to document where to look because I did have that time.

  Notes from this session:

Q: Can you please try to address IPMI (Server management) as well
A: To what extent? There is already an IPMI test that performs basic
function testing (e.g. connect to the BMC, pull SEL events and system info to
ensure that the IPMI bits are working).

  Definition of Done:
1: Defined list of specific hardware subsystems on servers that are to be
tested
2: Defined list of specific common server applications that are to be tested
3: Scope infrastructure changes as may be needed (new hardware, etc)
4: Defined list of tests that will verify server stability and functionality
5: Defined limits on what is acceptable load minimums and maximums for testing
6: Defined list of which tests will be hardware certification tests and which
will be QA style tests
7: Responsibilities for each set of tests assigned to the appropriate teams
8: Tests written if they do not currently exist, tested for usability and
implemented in Checkbox
9: Separate whitelists defined in checkbox for server certification and
server QA
10: New infrastructure in place and operational if necessary
11: Servers tested using full server certification and server QA whitelists
12: 11.10 is thoroughly hammered using our new combined Super Monkey Powers
13: 12.04 is the best Server LTS EVER!

[Bug 783864] Re: need a versioned depend on vgabios

2011-06-06 Thread dann frazier
I don't have a strong opinion either way (I've got it resolved where I
needed it to be), but the only justification that comes to mind for me
is a partial upgrade scenario. Whether or not that's an SRU qualifier,
I've no idea.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 183495 ***

The mentioned file remains missing in 10.10. Bug #183495 could be a
related cause, but does not seem to be a duplicate, or else this is a
regression at 10.10.

Plz backport this to 10.04 so it won't surface again on a new install.

Re: [Bug 788059] Re: squid crashed with SIGABRT in __kernel_vsyscall()

2011-06-06 Thread Clint Byrum
Excerpts from Alex's message of Sat Jun 04 23:18:26 UTC 2011:
Hi Clint Bruyn, thank you so much for responding to my posting.
Apparently, I have tried the solutions you have provided, however, the
solutions does not fix the problem by itself. Also, I have tried
completely un-install or remove the package and re-install it again. The
problem still persist. Perhaps, could this problem originated from the
conversion from 10.10 to 11.04 or perhaps purging the entire system of
10.10 version and reinstall 11.04 from the scratch without system
conversion. What do you think? Thanks again for your help.

Alex, what I proposed was not a solution, but rather a way to help get a
better CoreDump file with symbols included so that we can determine the
problem.

If you can still do that with the package built with 'nostrip', that would
be very helpful for determining why this error is happening. Once it crashes
with the 'nostrip' version installed, you can either report a new bug, which
will give us the new CoreDump file (btw you may want to leave it private so
that sensitive details like encryption keys and passwords aren't exposed), or
you can find the 'core' file yourself and attach it to this bug.

[Bug 790145] Re: kvm husb: ctrl buffer too small

2011-06-06 Thread Clint Byrum
Please note that even if this bug is verified in lucid/maverick, there
are two other bugs that have been waiting a while in qemu-kvm in lucid
and maverick, which will block this fix from moving to -updates until
they are verified too:

lucid:
bug #786941 - Cannot boot from non-existent NIC
maverick:
bug #719448 - The once parameter does not work with -boot

So, anybody verifying this bug in one of those releases, please go there
and verify the respective fix as well to speed the propagation to
-updates.

The upload to lucid-proposed was deleted, as the version was higher than
that of the dev release, oneiric. If you happened to download that
version while it was briefly available, you should manually downgrade

[Bug 789229] Re: using a blacklist and a blacklist_exception section results in multipathd filtering out paths it shouldn't

2011-06-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Likewise, I rejected the maverick/natty-proposed uploads. Please
reupload with a version that is smaller than oneiric, e. g.
0.4.8-14ubuntu11~10.10 and 0.4.8-14ubuntu11~11.04 (if the uploads are by
and large straight backports).

Re: [Bug 783864] Re: need a versioned depend on vgabios

2011-06-06 Thread Soren Hansen
2011/6/6 Martin Pitt martin.p...@ubuntu.com:
This SRU seems quite pointless to me: it does not fix anything for natty
users, as the vgabios version is recent enoug there. Why is it worth
spending the effort of preparing, building, and QAing this, and having a
nonzero regression risk? Oneiric has the versioned dependency, so
backports will have it, too. For the theoretical case of a natty-lucid
backport, the dependency can be added for the backport upload.

Just as a reminder: If this ever does get backported to Lucid, I'd
recommend that the versioned dependency should be vgabios (=
0.6c-2ubuntu2~) (notice the tilde at the end). This is because
vgabios will have to be backported as well and the backport will be
versioned as e.g. 0.6c-2ubuntu2~lucid1, so it would not satisfy the
tildeless versioned dependency.

[Bug 791596] Re: Odd Pointer Behavior After Recent Xserver SRU in Natty

2011-06-06 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
I'm now a bit confused as to what the actual problem you're seeing is. Is it:
*) Erratic mouse behaviour:
+) pointer moving when not moving the mouse?
+) pointer moving in an incorrect direction when moving the mouse?
+) pointer not moving at a constant rate when moving the mouse at a constant
speed?
 +) Something else?
*) Altered mouse sensitivity:
+) Higher sensitivity - pointer moves in the direction expected, but moves
further than expected
+) Altered acceleration behaviour - pointer takes longer/shorter to get to
“full speed” when moving the mouse?

Are there any other changes when switching between the xserver-xorg-core
versions? Do you have two monitors connected?

In any case, as far as I can tell the codepath the patch changes will
only be hit by a driver sending an absolute pointer event, which as far
as I can tell none of your devices (and certainly not your mouse) will
do. So I remain a bit perplexed!

[Bug 778933] Re: suspend problem

apport information

** Description changed:

Sorry for my English ... I have problem with suspend. While it appears
to turn off properly when I press the button to restart the computer it
starts as if I had to disable shut down, not suspend. In ubuntu 10.10
functioned normally without problem. From what I've been looking at
forums I've found that the same problem and have other sony vaio
laptops. Someone mentioned that upgrading the bios corrected the
problem. I'll check it. It is strange, however, because the 10.10
  operating normally ...

Also another problem is that I do not recognize the card reader in no
linux version I've tried ... But this is not a big problem for me
because they do not use it ... But it is still a problem.

[Bug 773154] Re: Atheros AR9285 extremely slow unstable on 11.04

2011-06-06 Thread joe_d
Hi have this exact problem with a Toshiba NB200 Netbook on Ubuntu 11.04
(64 bit) which has the Atheros AR9825 WiFi.

It basically works perfectly within 1-2 meters of the wireless hub but
going into another room or a different floor renders the WiFi connection
useless.

It should be noted that it works perfectly find using exactly the same
hardware on WinXP.

So far, I have tried both the linux-backports-modules-net-natty-generic
package and also compiling and installing the latest compat-wireless but
to no avail.

thanks but this didnt work for me it returned:
ERROR: Module iwlagn does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module iwlcore does not exist in /proc/modules
but i also think it is a problem with my wireless driver. how can i keep
blank screen or suspend from turning off the wireless in the first place?

I've got similar issue on my Dell Inspiron 6400. And I've tracked it down
to intel wifi driver. I have iwl 5300 card installed - and as I can see at
least some people here have intel wifi too.
My system hangs during suspend, but if I do 'sudo rmmod iwlagn' it
suspends/resumes fine. But I also have latest compat-wireless installed from
source. You might also want to try 'sudo rmmod iwlagn iwlcore'
Anyway, I'm not sure how this all related, but I think it might worth a try
 to isolate issue.
