I checked out the Ubuntu delta, and it seems it's just a patch that has
been applied upstream and is no longer needed when 0.11 is applied. Same
with the other patch that is in there.

I updated kernel to upstream 4.8.1-040801-generic and seems more
stable now. As I don't have windows any more, updating the bios will
be painful.
I have been running this kernel for a week now a no more hangs such
the ones I reported.

Thanks Joseph! I'm seeing the same effect described by Martin.
Boot+lightdm+loading Unity 7 is not as fast as it used to be in 16.04.
I need to compare timings (4.8 patched vs 4.8 vs 4.4) tomorrow to make
sure, but I also feel like it's a little faster now with the patches
applied.
