The default udev rules should set up access to the joystick devices
the right way automatically: the user on the console as well as all
users in the "input" group should get access to it automatically.

Writing such udev rules should not be necessary.

Anyway, this is not an upstream systemd issue. If you have trouble
with how your distribution handles joystick devices by default, please
ping your downstream distribution and not us upstream.

Thank you very much for understanding,

Lennart

[Bug 1726879] Re: Unescaped left brace in regex is deprecated

2018-01-23 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
uploaded and ready for the SRU Teams review

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Perl version in Artful complains about deprecated regex usage in
+spamassassin. This works but floods consoles and status mails.
+
+ * Fix is a backport of the small upstream change
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * simply run sa-learn in any way, for example
+ $ sa-learn --help
+In unfixed versions you'll see the following all over the place (also
+on install and in status mails)
+
+ Unescaped left brace in regex is deprecated here (and will be fatal
+  in Perl 5.30), passed through in regex; marked by <-- HERE in m/^(.{
+ <-- HERE ,200}).*$/ at
+ /usr/share/perl5/Mail/SpamAssassin/PerMsgStatus.pm line 923.
+
+ * these should allow someone who is not familiar with the affected
+package to reproduce the bug and verify that the updated package fixes
+the problem.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * sa-learn worked in some tests, but there could be unexpected
+cases where this breaks by very slight behavior changes.
+OTOH the change is upstream a while now, so the chance it
+really broke anything is low.
+Also the change is essentially 1 chomp moved and 3 pattern matches
+adapted to new syntax - so the amount that slips our review thoughts
+should be low.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * n/a
+
+ ---
+
When using sa-learn, you receive this notification:

Unescaped left brace in regex is deprecated here (and will be fatal in
Perl 5.30), passed through in regex; marked by <-- HERE in m/^(.{ <--
  HERE ,200}).*$/ at /usr/share/perl5/Mail/SpamAssassin/PerMsgStatus.pm

[Bug 1745105] [NEW] Display setting default option

2018-01-23 Thread Angel Cervera Claudio
Public bug reported:

In Display settings, the default option when changes the configuration is "keep
changes".
If there is a problem and you can NOT see the message, if you press "Intro"
(accidently or because you don't know what to do) is going to keep the change
so you are going to be in troubles.

Should not be "Revert settings" the default option?

Ubuntu 17.10
GNOME Shell 3.26.2

[Bug 1644364] Re: [MIR] htop

2018-01-23 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Filed an upstream issue polling for a 2.0.3 release we could align to.
That is more proactive than just wait-and-see.
We can then decide our next steps based on the answer there.

Here -p00--> Is the chip id, -c6 ---> is the core id under that chip, these
should be selecte from the output
of the first command "getscom pu.ex 10013100 -all"

Repeat the above process 4 times with each time on a different chip with
master core getting injected.

Then run

lscpu
Architecture: ppc64le
Byte Order:Little Endian
CPU(s):88
On-line CPU(s) list: 16-39,48-71,80-95,104-127

NUMA node16 CPU(s):64-71,80-95

And also there is a automated testcase for this in
https://github.com/open-power/op-test-framework
1. Clone the above repo.
2. Runt this command to GUARD the cpu.
./op-test --bmc-type FSP --bmc-ip $FSPIP --bmc-username dev --bmc-password
FipSdev --host-ip $HOSTIP --host-user root --host-password passw0rd --ffdcdir
test-reports/ --run testcases.OpTestHMIHandling.MalfunctionAlert

Run it multiple times to make multiple CPU's are garded.

This patch makes the customers to easily identify the CPU minimum and
maximum frequencies at which it can run(This happens only when there are
multiple CPU's are Garded.

[Bug 1644364] Re: [MIR] htop

2018-01-23 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
This is still in a locked state - not sure if that will be in 18.04.
The ack is for >2.0.2

The changes are in git for a while, but no version with them was released yet.
Next steps are:
1. waiting until a new version is released upstream
2. Debian to pick it up (here we could move ahead if we want)
3. only then we are allowed to change the seeds in regard to the security ack

It will be done, but there are a few things not that much under our
control we have to wait on.

[Bug 1371274] Re: Unable to use the widevine plugin with Chromium

2018-01-23 Thread Olivier Tilloy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1652110 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1652110

No need for Saikrishna's PPA for that, the patches to have external
widevine libs located have been integrated in the official Ubuntu
packages, starting at version 63.0.3239.84.

A wild guess is that maybe the version of the widevine libs you have is
too old and thus incompatible with that version of chromium?

[Bug 1727653] Re: error: can't start new thread

2018-01-23 Thread Václav Haisman
So, I have been experimenting. I have removed ulimit -v 100...0 out of
the command line because I have unlimited limit by default. What I have
added though is ulimit -s 16384 which doubles stack limit and I have
also ulimit -n 2048 to double file limit. Todays backup passed without
the usual exception.

I suggest others do the same. Find out file handle limits and stack size
limits and try again with doubled values. And remove the VM limit if it
actually sets a limit from unlimited.

[Bug 1745049] Re: Bumblebee crashes during boot with kernel 4.13.0.31 on Bionic

2018-01-23 Thread walkerstreet
I have just tested my laptop by installing the mainline kernel 4.14.15.
It boots fine and bumblebee works fine. So it looks like this upstream
kernel work OK with bumblebee. Incidentally, I found out that I need to
install libelf-dev in order for kernel modules to get built successfully
with this upstream kernel.

[Bug 1452202] Re: ubuntu preseed install fails to set a hostname

2018-01-23 Thread Eric Desrochers
Hi Joshua,

As discussed on irc, It would be best for Trusty to use the debdiff I
made found in LP: #1743787.

Otherwise, when the "d-i" rebuild will be needed to generate a new
mini.iso for instance, "d-i" will fail to build.

Everything is documented in the bug.

- Eric

[Bug 1438025] Re: please add security.ubuntu.com to the ubuntu mirrors

2018-01-23 Thread Noah
I'm a bit confused about this, can anyone clarify?

My interpretation is that mdeslaur is saying that because updates are in
the normal ubuntu repositories, and in the sources.list files
security.ubuntu.com is listed last, then so long as there is no problem
with the archive repo, files will *not* be fetched from the security
repo, and thus this change is unneeded.

Is this correct?

The only case I can think of where this will cause more bandwidth is in
the retrieval of a second set of package lists (from
security.ubuntu.com), and the gap between packages being on
security.ubuntu and the local archive mirror.

[Bug 1619844] Re: [Xenial] shutdown/reboot hangs at "Reached target Shutdown"

2018-01-23 Thread Andy Shulman
I no longer have this issue. I don't know whether it was updating mdadm
or another package, but I recently issued a shutdown command and walked
over to my box to hold the power button for a few seconds and finish
shutting it off, only to find it was already off. I've since confirmed
that a reboot command turns the box off and back on again. Thanks!

I used UKUU to upgrade kernel 4.15.0-rc9.

During upgrading, the following warning messages showed me.

However, after rebooting with 4.15-rc9, screen was not broken. Works
WELL.

That will take work that Ubuntu developers might not have the time to do. The
process is here for anyone who does have time and wants to get this into 17.10,
it's thorough because updates into existing releases is risky...it might be
that the fix from 37 needs to be backported to 36...

[Bug 1418706] Re: UEFI: blank drive incorrectly detected as existing BIOS-mode install

Just ran into this bug on 17.10. Can confirm if you let the installer
partition for you then re-install afterwards with manual partitions it
works.

Partitioning manually before installation does NOT work and still stuck
on force UEFI message.

[Bug 1371274] Re: Unable to use the widevine plugin with Chromium

2018-01-23 Thread Richard Audette
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1652110 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1652110

https://github.com/kusti8/chromium-build/releases/download/netflix-1.0.0
/chromium-browser_56.0.2924.84-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.1011.deb is a not-
official build, which works with Raspbian, where someone has bundled the
widevine libraries, presumably pulled from a Chromebook. On the Pi, it
will run Netflix. This is where I have found the armhf widevine
libraries.

On another system (the Odroid XU4, armhf) I am running Ubuntu, with
Chromium 63.0.3239.84-0ubuntu0.16.04.1, from this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~saiarcot895/+archive/ubuntu/chromium-dev , as the
top of this thread suggested the Widevine libraries would be supported
if copied to the appropriate folder.

Using the armhf widevine libraries that I have taken from the Pi which
is working with Netflix, and copied into /usr/lib/chromium-browser of
63.0.3239.84-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 , I have been not been able to get Netflix
to work.

[Bug 1745066] Re: Snap documatation of hook changes

2018-01-23 Thread Brett Sutton
And updated doco for the install hook

 CURRENT
“install”

The install hook is called upon initial install, before any services
contained by the snap are started. If the hook exits non-zero, the
installation of the snap will fail.

Example

Before running the snapcraft command to build your snap, this install
file should be placed at this location:

/snap/hooks/install.

#!/bin/sh
set -e

# Run any commands needed to setup the snap.
# This could be downloading a list of dynamic configuration options or creating
a database.

 SUGGESTED
“install”

The install hook is called the snaps installation has completed but
before before any services contained by the snap are started. If the
'install' hook exits non-zero, the installation of the snap will fail
causing a full rollback.

The install hook can be used to run any commands needed as part of the
setup, such as creating or upgrading a database or downloading
dynamically configured files.

You can also provide some initial default values for the key/value store
by calling:

snapctl set =

The install script lives along side the configure script at:

/snap/hooks/install

Example

#!/bin/sh
set -e

snapctl set username=daemon_user
snapctl set password=

# Run any commands needed to setup the snap.
# This could be downloading a list of dynamic configuration options or creating
a database.

[Bug 1745066] [NEW] Snap documatation of hook changes

2018-01-23 Thread Brett Sutton
Public bug reported:

The documentation for the 'hook' scripts is somewhat ambiguous.

I tried to include 'snap set' commands from within the install hook
which just causes the hook to hang (I'm guess the set command is waiting
for the install to finish which it never will).

I would like to suggest the following doco changes for the hook scripts

 CURRENT -
Hooks types

“configure”

The configure hook is called upon initial snap install (after any
services contained by the snap have started), after a refresh, and
whenever the user requests a configuration change via the snap set
command. If the hook exits non-zero, the configuration will not be
applied.

snap set / snap get

The snap set and snap get commands to write or read a configuration
value inside a snap through a “configure” hook are operated the
following way:

snap set =
snap get
Note that the configure hook is called without parameters. From within a hook,
configuration values passed by the user can be retrieved with the snapctl get
command, which implies the following order of operation for a snap set
command:

The user runs snap set some-app username=foo to change the “username” value in
the some-app snap.
snapd runs the configure hook shipped with some-app.
The configure hook iterates over possible configuration keys (which username is
part of) by calling snapctl get and does something with them (eg. update
a configuration file of the application).

--- SUGGESTED - feel free to make any
edits.

Hooks types

“configure”

The configure hook is called when the snap is first installed (and after
any services contained within the snap have started), after a refresh,
and whenever the user requests a configuration change via the snap set
command.

If the hook exits non-zero, the configuration will not be applied.

snap set / snap get

The snap set and snap get commands are available to the user to write or
read configuration values for a snap. The snap set/get commands store
key/value pairs in a keystore specific to your snap.

Your hook script can read/write these values by calling
snapctl get
snapctl set =

When the user runs 'snap set' your “configure” hook is called to notify
it that a change has been made. If the user runs 'snap get' your
"configure" will NOT be called.

Note that the configure hook is called without parameters. This means
its up to you to check each key/value to see if any have changed. There
is no way for your configure hook to iterate over the list of keys, as
such you hook must know what key names it needs to check.

What your configure hook does when notified is completely up to you, but
often it you will want to update one of your configuration files or may
be a database value.

A typical workflow might be:

1. The user runs `snap set some-app username=foo`
2. snapd updates the snap keystore for 'some-app'. The 'username' key now has a
value of 'foo'
3. snapd runs the configure hook shipped with some-app.
4. The configure hook iterates over the known configuration keys (which
username is part of) by calling snapctl get and does something with each
key/value (eg. update you database connection string).

[Bug 1724250] Re: gnome-terminal graphic artifact

2018-01-23 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Let's make it clear that it's absolutely most definitely not a bug in
gnome-terminal. Gnome-terminal uses old-fashioned server-side
decorations, that is, the window border is drawn by the window manager.
There is no way gnome-terminal could legally ask it to draw something
else there.

The picture there looks like part of a terminal icon, the one that's
shown e.g. in gnome-terminal's About dialog in 128x128. The misdrawn one
also seems to be of this size, however, scaled up from a lower
resolution.

The only way I can reasonably think of where the window manager takes
this icon from is the _NET_WM_ICON window property, as shown e.g. by the
xprop command. After you click on the desired window, by default it
prints a low-res variant of the picture to the terminal.

The output of "xprop -notype 32c _NET_WM_ICON" consists of two numbers:
the dimension, followed by that many numbers in the natural order, each
number encoding one pixel. E.g. for me the first two numbers are 32, 32,
and then the next 32^2 = 1024 numbers encode the icon in its smallest
size. Then it's followed by the same at size 48x48 (so far this
corresponds to the parameterless xprop command showing these two sizes).
and then it even starts printing at size 256x256 but the output stops
prematurely.

Look at e.g. https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/48860/how-to-dump-
the-icon-of-a-running-x-program for how to convert these numbers to .pam
format. Then forget pamrgbatopng mentioned on that site, use
imagemagic's "convert" to convert to let's say .png.

gnome-terminal's source has a "gtk_window_set_default_icon_name
(GNOME_TERMINAL_ICON_NAME)", the latter constant being defined as
"utilities-terminal". A bit of strace'ing reveals that the About dialog
takes the picture from the Humanity theme.

Putting together the pieces we have so far: gnome-terminal installs
_NET_WM_ICON via the gtk_window_set_default_icon_name call, taking the
files /usr/share/icons/Humanity/apps/[size]/utilities-terminal.svg, at
sizes 32, 48, maybe 128, maybe 256; not sure if 256 fails now or when
querying, not sure whose fault that chopped output is, not sure if it's
relevant to our bug.

The picture incorrectly shown indeed suspiciously looks like Humanity's
utilities-terminal icon scaled up from 48 to 128.

The question is... Why does the window manager decide to even try to
show the icon, and why does it fail to properly do so...???

[Bug 1742302] Re: Kernel 4.13.0-25 broke nvidia driver

2018-01-23 Thread Bharata Kalbuaji
I just upgraded the kernel to 4.13.0-31 but the problem still persists.
I am using Kubuntu 17.10 and after I reboot, I can not start the X
server. If I try to start it, it shows message that it can not find
opengl 2. Any idea how to fix this? I install the nvidia driver via
repository.
