I was having a similar issue - Ubuntu 17.10.
It started to work for me after I installed source build dependencies.
sudo apt-get build-dep cw
A package (or two) need to be moved into the binary package
dependancies. At this stage I don't know which ones they would be.

Upgrading to kernel 4.13.0-33.36 from ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa solved the
issue.
No need to use "acpi=off"
