I can confirm that this problem exists in 18.04 and that disabling the
linked Google account in Account Settings worked for me.
The chmod-based solution posted by titan-phpdevshell (#13) also worked,

OK, I desoldered the flash and dumped the firmware. The chip is indeed a
remarked TPS65983 (possibly TPS65983B, it's not entirely clear) and out
of the 1 MiB flash capacity, slightly less than 70 KiB is used by the
firmware. Which is still not very small but could be manageable. I've

many more are not working.
Now I can't assign Ctrl-` any more, very annoying, now I use shift-` but this
is a bad fix (it blocks ~).
