[Bug 1827442] Re: [MIR] libheif
Thanks for the updates Lukas Ok, so the stack around libheif seems to complete just in time. To summarize the situation: - MIR-wise all the dependencies are good to go now (libheif 1827442, libde265 2004449, aom 2004442, libyuv 2004516, libwebm 2004523) - The related FFE (2061090) was granted - The upload to pull it in happened [1] - We are in freeze, but it was accepted by bdmurray 6h ago - It built on all arches, per excuses only the mismatches hold it back - We see it in component mismatches [2] Slight twist here (libyuv 2004516, libwebm 2004523) are not needed atm. They were considered transitive dependencies and as part of the MIR the embedded code was stripped and uses the system libs instead. See "0002-use-system-libyuv.patch" and "0003-use-system-libwebm.patch" [4]. But due to that we now have proper dependency tracking and it turns out that this is only needed for aom-tools which isn't depended on - the usage of libaom3 from heif is not requiring those two. We could promote it, but if you want that you'd need to seed aom-tools in one of the -supported seeds I guess. Therefore it all seems in place including the release team moving it forward despite the freeze which implies this should move (in these days we do not want to unintentionally affect the RC) and can thereby be promoted. [Bug 2004516] Re: [MIR] libyuv (transitive dependency of libheif)
Slight change here - this isn't needed for libaom3. Due to the good use of non-embedded libs we now have correct dependency tracking. ** Description changed: [SRU Justification] BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2061747 [Impact] Starting from kernel v6.8, Intel demands the use of in-tree VSC driver instead of the out-of-tree dkms originated from https://github.com/intel/ivsc-driver. [Fix] The in-tree vsc driver as of v6.8 still need a few fixes to archive the same supportness to launched Intel IPU6 Camera devices. Commit 1,3, and 4 are to add supported devices and platforms. Commit 2 resolves an issue after resumed. [Test Case] This is supposed to work together with the updated dkms, which shall - also be built along with the kernel itself as linux-modules-ipu6-. - Install the corresponding kernel/modules packages and test camera - functions. + also be built along with the kernel itself as linux-modules- + ipu6-. Install the corresponding kernel/modules packages and + test camera functions. [Where problems could occur] While this is the first time we switch to in-tree VSC driver, and the out-of-tree driver is not aligned at the time of transition and probably never will, the provided functions and verified stability issues may vary. [Other Info] The dkms is created to be compatible of multiple versions, yet the in- tree vsc driver transitioning should only happen for kernel >= v6.8. Since we were okay with the patch, we probably didn't need to add anything further. But they fixed 6.1 with: commit 21bb2ba4f1ac1e3a57594be62dd74e7b1401b2b1 Author: Steve French Date: Fri Jan 12 23:08:51 2024 -0600 Subject: cifs: fix flushing folio regression for 6.1 backport Link: https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/mantic/commit/?id=21bb2ba4f1ac1e3a57594be62dd74e7b1401b2b1 Now, Ubuntu kernels in between upstream stable releases get patches from current upstream stable and long term upstream stable trees. We got both 6.1.x and 6.7.x patches recently... so we pulled in this fix, and it landed in: $ git describe --contains 21bb2ba4f1ac1e3a57594be62dd74e7b1401b2b1 Ubuntu-6.5.0-27.28~162 Wow, what a coincidence. I think this patch is probably not needed in 6.5, and causes the issue. How about I build you a test kernel with "cifs: fix flushing folio regression for 6.1 backport" reverted, and then we see if it fixes things? If it does, I will send a revert to the kernel team. If it doesn't then I will have another look. I'll write back once a test kernel is ready. I'll build you both Jammy HWE and Mantic kernels. If you can help me make a reproducer, that would be great. I can test myself then. Note that with LTP test suite update this test is not causing failure to cgroup_fj_* anymore. Now it's only failing on GCP g1-small instance. [Bug 2059197] Re: mount.nfs: Fix minor version parsing when '-t nfs4' and '-o vers=4.x' are used together
Performing verification for Focal. I started two VMs, one Jammy, which is the nfs server, and one Focal, which is the client. I used the instructions in the testcase sections of this bug, and also bug 2049262. The Focal VM has nfs-common 1:1.3.4-2.5ubuntu3.6 from -updates. [Bug 2034524] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI_getenv("EXPAT_ENTITY_DEBUG") from getDebugLevel() from parserInit()

[Bug 2062428] Re: Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 2062428 When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. No clues as to product are provided (three flavors use calamares, though Kubuntu is used as example so it maybe Kubuntu but we don't know; is this 24.04? as its not said though mentioned too), nor clues as to what ISO was used, nor package version details. It's likely nothing can be done without this detail; as package versions have changed multiple times in the last few days & no useful data (no logs etc) were provided. Please in future use `ubuntu-bug`... which can be run even from terminal even during operation (or calamares-hang). If your system has already gone (ie. I assume it was LIVE and thus after failure you shutdown box), some detail can be added to the report if you BOOT the same ISO on the SAME HARDWARE and run `apport-collect 2062428` as requested there. This will populate most missing fields, even if no calamares-log will be attached (you'd need to re-run the install & have the same issue to get that). As currently little detail is provided, I'll mark this bug as incomplete. If you do run `apport-collect`, please change the status back to "New". Thank you for filing the bug report in attempts to make Ubuntu better. ** Changed in: calamares-settings-ubuntu (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062428 Title: Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares-settings-ubuntu/+bug/2062428/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2062377] Re: Ubuntu 24.04. Xorg crash when dmz-white cursor is selected
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Run these commands: journalctl -b0 > journal.txt journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt and attach the resulting text files here. 2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: mutter (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062377 Title: Ubuntu 24.04. [Bug 1586678]
I just switched from Geary to Thunderbird because Geary is not sending emails reliably for me and the new Thunderbird 115 looks and feels great. I was looking though for this exact feature. I do agree with the speakers before me that this is such an integral feature of an email application that used to be the standard on Linux desktop. Gnome and KDE are the two biggest platforms, of them Gnome is from my knowledge even a bit bigger. The only accounts feature is right there, why not integrate Thunderbird with it? I have my Nextcloud, MS email and work email (exchange) already linked in Gnome, as many others will have too for sure. It would be such a great feature to have them loaded automatically into Firefox. I really think this issue should be prioritised higher and I feel the the fact that this request is 11 years old and people are still commenting here supports that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1586678 Title: Should have better support for GNOME Online Accounts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/thunderbird/+bug/1586678/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2062428] Re: Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less
** Summary changed: - Install randomely crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less + Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less ** Description changed: - Install randomely crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less + Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less When the system doesn't hang, I can see kernel OOM killing random processes like calamares, cryptsetup etc. I had ~75% success of installing Kubuntu 24.04 daily on VMs with less then 3GB and almost 0% on 2GB VMs. Previous livecd installers had no issues with 2GB VMs and Once the system is installed it functions satisfactory with 2GB. I believe adding zram-config to livefs/casper would allow installation on systems with only 2GB of RAM. Note, Similar issue also affects other Ubuntu images so the issue is not calamares specific. The problem first appeared around the time of switching to Kernel 6.8. I believe the issue is overlayfs related since that's the main difference between livefs and installed system and there were a lot of changes related to overlayfs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062428 Title: Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares-settings-ubuntu/+bug/2062428/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
