[Bug 1827442] Re: [MIR] libheif

2024-04-18 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks for the updates Lukas
Ok, so the stack around libheif seems to complete just in time.

To summarize the situation:
- MIR-wise all the dependencies are good to go now (libheif 1827442, libde265
2004449, aom 2004442, libyuv 2004516, libwebm 2004523)
- The related FFE (2061090) was granted
- The upload to pull it in happened [1]
- We are in freeze, but it was accepted by bdmurray 6h ago
- It built on all arches, per excuses only the mismatches hold it back
- We see it in component mismatches [2]

Slight twist here (libyuv 2004516, libwebm 2004523) are not needed atm.
They were considered transitive dependencies and as part of the MIR the
embedded code was stripped and uses the system libs instead. See
"0002-use-system-libyuv.patch" and "0003-use-system-libwebm.patch" [4].
But due to that we now have proper dependency tracking and it turns out that
this is only needed for aom-tools which isn't depended on - the usage of
libaom3 from heif is not requiring those two.

We could promote it, but if you want that you'd need to seed aom-tools
in one of the -supported seeds I guess.

Therefore it all seems in place including the release team moving it
forward despite the freeze which implies this should move (in these days
we do not want to unintentionally affect the RC) and can thereby be
promoted.

The dependency tree only needs libaom3, the related auto-includes are
safe (libjs-mathjax and libaom3 are the only dependencies of libaom-doc
libaom-dev).

[Bug 2004516] Re: [MIR] libyuv (transitive dependency of libheif)

2024-04-18 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Slight change here - this isn't needed for libaom3.

Due to the good use of non-embedded libs we now have correct dependency
tracking.
That shows that only aom-tools would needed it, which isn't pulled in from
libheif.

We could promote it, but if you want that you'd need to seed aom-tools
(if it is serving a good purpose) in one of the -supported seeds I
guess.

Yep, fantastic. I can reproduce this problem anytime so I can test it.

myself then.

Here is some info from a faulty system. Hope it helps:

* fstab mount:
//192.168.1.10/FPGNAS  /mnt/FPGNAS_CIFS  cifs
_netdev,x-systemd.requires=network-online.target,async,nosuid,nodev,noexec,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0640,dir_mode=0750,uid=1026,gid=100,credentials=/etc/.cifspwd,rw

* mount info:
//192.168.1.10/FPGNAS on /mnt/FPGNAS_CIFS type cifs

* cp from a file to a file both in same share:
# cd /mnt/FPGNAS_CIFS/tmp
/mnt/FPGNAS_CIFS/tmp# touch sample1.txt
/mnt/FPGNAS_CIFS/tmp# cp sample1.txt sample2.txt
Terminado (killed)

After that error the CIFS mount become unusable as any operation just
hangs.

* The remote cifs server is a Synology DS213j NAS. Samba version is:
# smbd -V
Version 4.15.9
Synology Build 42934, Jul  5 2023 16:52:06

Please, let me know if I can give you any other info that helps to solve
the problem.

2024-04-18 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi everyone,

As promised, I uploaded test kernels to the below ppa:

https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/lp2060919-test

They are based on 6.5.0-27-generic to keep it simple.

It just has "cifs: fix flushing folio regression for 6.1 backport". Thats it.
Pretty small patch:

[Bug 2061747] Re: obsolete out-of-tree ivsc dkms in favor of in-tree one

2024-04-18 Thread You-Sheng Yang
** Description changed:

  [SRU Justification]

  BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2061747

  [Impact]

  Starting from kernel v6.8, Intel demands the use of in-tree VSC driver
  instead of the out-of-tree dkms originated from
  https://github.com/intel/ivsc-driver.

  [Fix]

  The in-tree vsc driver as of v6.8 still need a few fixes to archive the
  same supportness to launched Intel IPU6 Camera devices. Commit 1,3, and
  4 are to add supported devices and platforms. Commit 2 resolves an issue
  after resumed.

  [Test Case]

  This is supposed to work together with the updated dkms, which shall
- also be built along with the kernel itself as linux-modules-ipu6-.
- Install the corresponding kernel/modules packages and test camera
- functions.
+ also be built along with the kernel itself as linux-modules-
+ ipu6-. Install the corresponding kernel/modules packages and
+ test camera functions.

  [Where problems could occur]

  While this is the first time we switch to in-tree VSC driver, and the
  out-of-tree driver is not aligned at the time of transition and probably
  never will, the provided functions and verified stability issues may
  vary.

  [Other Info]

  The dkms is created to be compatible of multiple versions, yet the in-
  tree vsc driver transitioning should only happen for kernel >= v6.8.
  That is, oem-6.8, noble and linux-unstable will be nominated.

  == original bug description ==

  Starting from kernel v6.8 (yet from the code diff it's v6.6), Intel
  demands the use of in-tree IVSC drivers instead of out-of-tree dkms from
  https://github.com/intel/ivsc-driver.

Hello,

I can't actually reproduce the issue, I seem to be missing something.

No oops in dmesg. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe you can help.

Anyway, I had a look at the stack trace, and it seems to be related to
the regression reported here:

https://lore.kernel.org/linux-
mm/a76b370f93cb928c049b94e1fde0d2da506dfcb2.ca...@amazon.com/T/

But I think its slightly different in the Ubuntu 6.5 kernel.

The thread mentions that:

commit 7b2404a886f8b91250c31855d287e632123e1746
Author: David Howells
Date:   Fri Dec 1 00:22:00 2023 +
Subject: cifs: Fix flushing, invalidation and file size with copy_file_range()
Link:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=7b2404a886f8b91250c31855d287e632123e1746

introduced the issue to Debian's 6.1 kernel.

This got backported to Ubuntu in:

commit 3adbe2ccd8b9b8fde93e03958d6176945794d288
Author: David Howells
Date:   Fri Dec 1 00:22:00 2023 +
Subject: cifs: Fix flushing, invalidation and file size with copy_file_range()

$ git describe --contains 3adbe2ccd8b9b8fde93e03958d6176945794d288
Ubuntu-6.5.0-20.20~107

Which we have been using for some time now.

Reading the regression mailing list thread, they mention that things
work differently in 6.1:

> Yeah. __filemap_get_folio() works differently in v6.1.y. There it returns a
> folio or NULL. In 6.7 it returns a folio or a negative error code. The error
> check in cifs_flush_folio() needs to change to something like:
>
>   folio = filemap_get_folio(inode->i_mapping, index);
>   if (!folio)
>   return -ENOMEM;
>
> David

okay... so 6.1 is different from 6.5. Since we were okay with the patch,
we probably didn't need to add anything further.

But they fixed 6.1 with:

commit 21bb2ba4f1ac1e3a57594be62dd74e7b1401b2b1
Author: Steve French
Date:   Fri Jan 12 23:08:51 2024 -0600
Subject: cifs: fix flushing folio regression for 6.1 backport
Link:
https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/mantic/commit/?id=21bb2ba4f1ac1e3a57594be62dd74e7b1401b2b1

Now, Ubuntu kernels in between upstream stable releases get patches from
current upstream stable and long term upstream stable trees.

We got both 6.1.x and 6.7.x patches recently...

so we pulled in this fix, and it landed in:

$ git describe --contains 21bb2ba4f1ac1e3a57594be62dd74e7b1401b2b1
Ubuntu-6.5.0-27.28~162

Wow, what a coincidence.

I think this patch is probably not needed in 6.5, and causes the issue.
How about I build you a test kernel with "cifs: fix flushing folio
regression for 6.1 backport" reverted, and then we see if it fixes
things?

If it does, I will send a revert to the kernel team. If it doesn't then
I will have another look.

I'll write back once a test kernel is ready. I'll build you both Jammy
HWE and Mantic kernels.

If you can help me make a reproducer, that would be great. I can test
myself then.

Thanks,
Matthew

[Bug 2061747] Re: obsolete out-of-tree ivsc dkms in favor of in-tree one

2024-04-18 Thread You-Sheng Yang
** Description changed:

+ [SRU Justification]
+
+ BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2061747
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ Starting from kernel v6.8, Intel demands the use of in-tree VSC driver
+ instead of the out-of-tree dkms originated from
+ https://github.com/intel/ivsc-driver.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ The in-tree vsc driver as of v6.8 still need a few fixes to archive the
+ same supportness to launched Intel IPU6 Camera devices. Commit 1,3, and
+ 4 are to add supported devices and platforms. Commit 2 resolves an issue
+ after resumed.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ This is supposed to work together with the updated dkms, which shall
+ also be built along with the kernel itself as linux-modules-ipu6-.
+ Install the corresponding kernel/modules packages and test camera
+ functions.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ While this is the first time we switch to in-tree VSC driver, and the
+ out-of-tree driver is not aligned at the time of transition and probably
+ never will, the provided functions and verified stability issues may
+ vary.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ The dkms is created to be compatible of multiple versions, yet the in-
+ tree vsc driver transitioning should only happen for kernel >= v6.8.
+ That is, oem-6.8, noble and linux-unstable will be nominated.
+
+ == original bug description ==
+
  Starting from kernel v6.8 (yet from the code diff it's v6.6), Intel
  demands the use of in-tree IVSC drivers instead of out-of-tree dkms from

2024-04-18 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Note that with LTP test suite update this test is not causing failure to
cgroup_fj_* anymore.

Now it's only failing on GCP g1-small instance. This test will take over
an hour (1h2m) which is slightly above our current threshold (120x,
actual timeout is 60m).

I think we can bump it to 150x (75m).

[Bug 2059197] Re: mount.nfs: Fix minor version parsing when '-t nfs4' and '-o vers=4.x' are used together

2024-04-18 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Performing verification for Focal.

I started two VMs, one Jammy, which is the nfs server, and one Focal,
which is the client. I used the instructions in the testcase sections of
this bug, and also bug 2049262.

The Focal VM has nfs-common 1:1.3.4-2.5ubuntu3.6 from -updates.

Let's try the testcase for this bug, covering the regression.

$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4.2 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:12:50 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4.1 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:13:23 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4.0 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:13:30 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4,minorversion=2 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:13:36 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'minorversion=2,vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4,minorversion=1 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:13:41 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'minorversion=1,vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4,minorversion=0 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:13:47 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'minorversion=0,vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt

This behaviour is wrong, as even when we specify the minorversion as .1
or .0, we always get .2, no matter what. We can reproduce the issue.

I then enabled -proposed, and installed nfs-common 1:1.3.4-2.5ubuntu3.7.

Let's retry the testcase.

$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4.2 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:17:28 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4.1 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:17:35 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4.1,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4.0 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:17:40 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4.0,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4,minorversion=2 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:17:48 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4,vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4,minorversion=1 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:17:54 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4,vers=4.1,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -t nfs4 -o vers=4,minorversion=0 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs4: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:18:01 2024
mount.nfs4: trying text-based options
'vers=4,vers=4.0,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt

This looks much better. When we specify both '-t nfs4' and '-o vers=4.x'
we get the version we asked for. The version in -proposed fixes the
issue.

Again, I will run through the original testcase for bug, 2049262:

$ sudo cat /proc/fs/nfsd/versions
-2 +3 +4 +4.1 +4.2

$ sudo mount -o vers=4 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:22:14 2024
mount.nfs: trying text-based options
'vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -o vers=4.2 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:22:22 2024
mount.nfs: trying text-based options
'vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -o vers=4.1 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:22:28 2024
mount.nfs: trying text-based options
'vers=4.1,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -o vers=4.0 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:22:34 2024
mount.nfs: trying text-based options
'vers=4.0,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt

Looks OK.

$ sudo cat /proc/fs/nfsd/versions
-2 +3 +4 -4.0 +4.1 +4.2

$ sudo mount -o vers=4 -vvv jammy-nfs-server:/ /mnt
mount.nfs: timeout set for Fri Apr 19 03:24:31 2024
mount.nfs: trying text-based options
'vers=4.2,addr=192.168.122.109,clientaddr=192.168.122.161'
$ sudo umount /mnt
$ sudo mount -o vers=4.2 -vvv

[Bug 2034524] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI_getenv("EXPAT_ENTITY_DEBUG") from getDebugLevel() from parserInit()

2024-04-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I just hit this crash after logging out of Noble. gdm's gnome-shell
instance to restart the login screen crashed on first attempt. It worked
on the second attempt using Xorg instead of Wayland.

[Bug 2062428] Re: Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less

2024-04-18 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 2062428

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

No clues as to product are provided (three flavors use calamares, though
Kubuntu is used as example so it maybe Kubuntu but we don't know; is
this 24.04? as its not said though mentioned too), nor clues as to what
ISO was used, nor package version details. It's likely nothing can be
done without this detail; as package versions have changed multiple
times in the last few days & no useful data (no logs etc) were provided.
Please in future use `ubuntu-bug`... which can be run even from terminal
even during operation (or calamares-hang).

If your system has already gone (ie. I assume it was LIVE and thus after
failure you shutdown box), some detail can be added to the report if you
BOOT the same ISO on the SAME HARDWARE and run `apport-collect 2062428`
as requested there. This will populate most missing fields, even if no
calamares-log will be attached (you'd need to re-run the install & have
the same issue to get that).

As currently little detail is provided, I'll mark this bug as
incomplete. If you do run `apport-collect`, please change the status
back to "New". Thank you for filing the bug report in attempts to make
Ubuntu better.

[Bug 2060193] Re: iwlwifi microcode crash when using wrong password to join a WPA3 access point

2024-04-18 Thread AceLan Kao
This is not a driver failure, it's the microcode in the iwlwifi firmware.
As the issue no longer be reproducible by the bug reporter, Pauli, I'm going to
close this bug.

@QkiZ,

It's interesting that the issue could be fixed by the newer kernel, I'd treat
that as another issue.
If you want to help us to find the root cause, plase file a new bug and we may
need your help to see between which kernels the issue is gone.
Thanks.

[Bug 2062446] [NEW] 50+ minutes CPU time for /tmp/ubuntu-release-upgrader-29r0z57l/mantic is excessive

2024-04-18 Thread Russell Coker
Public bug reported:

USER PID %CPU %MEMVSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND
root   11954 51.0  1.2 555772 196136 pts/2   Rl+  10:15  50:39
/usr/bin/python3 -s /tmp/ubuntu-release-upgrader-29r0z57l/mantic --mode=server
--frontend=DistUpgradeViewText

This amount of CPU time on a i7-8665U is grossly excessive. According to
Passmark the latest i9 CPUs are only about 2.5* faster than this one
which means it would take 20+ minutes on an i9.

At least there should be an option for the user to skip this step.

[Bug 2062377] Re: Ubuntu 24.04. Xorg crash when dmz-white cursor is selected

2024-04-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 2062438] [NEW] pkgselect module offers Thunderbird as a third-party app on Kubuntu when Thunderbird ships with Kubuntu

2024-04-18 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
Public bug reported:

On the "Customize" screen of the installer, one of the additional apps
you can install is Thunderbird. This makes sense on Lubuntu, where
Thunderbird isn't installed by default, but Thunderbird *is* installed
by default on Kubuntu, making the checkbox confusing and unnecessary
there.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1586678]

2024-04-18 Thread Lennart-a
I just switched from Geary to Thunderbird because Geary is not sending
emails reliably for me and the new Thunderbird 115 looks and feels
great. I was looking though for this exact feature. I do agree with the
speakers before me that this is such an integral feature of an email
application that used to be the standard on Linux desktop. Gnome and KDE
are the two biggest platforms, of them Gnome is from my knowledge even a
bit bigger. The only accounts feature is right there, why not integrate
Thunderbird with it? I have my Nextcloud, MS email and work email
(exchange) already linked in Gnome, as many others will have too for
sure. It would be such a great feature to have them loaded automatically
into Firefox. I really think this issue should be prioritised higher and
I feel the the fact that this request is 11 years old and people are
still commenting here supports that.

Marcos,

Are you sure that you're running the latest version of the yaru-icon-
theme *and* of the ubuntu-dock?

Also are you running the ubuntu session?

If one of these conditions aren't met, then the normal icon will be
shown.

Looking at the dialog again it says "Do you want to rewrite your
'sources.list' file anyway?" not "Do you want to rewrite every sources
file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ file anyway?". So I think it is
surprising that this had the effect of running with --allow-third-party.

packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2062426/+editstatus and add the

[Bug 2062431] [NEW] warning: undefining the allocator of T_DATA class Augeas

2024-04-18 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

minor little bug:

When running the puppet client under 24.04, I always get an ugly
warning:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/rubygems-integration/3.2.0/gems/ruby-
augeas-0.5.0/lib/augeas.rb:48: warning: undefining the allocator of
T_DATA class Augeas

Not sure yet, whether just an ugly warning, or a real problem.

regards

[Bug 1993054] Re: USB key eject does not eject

2024-04-18 Thread Treviño
Ok, found the reason finally and a way to reproduce...

Thanks for the logging and to the https://github.com/xairy/raw-
gadget/tree/master/dummy_hcd kernel module that allowed me to simulate
more USB storage devices (together with g_mass_storage) for better fine-
tuning of their specs :)

[Bug 2062428] Re: Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less

2024-04-18 Thread Eugene San
** Summary changed:

- Install randomely crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less
+ Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less

** Description changed:

- Install randomely crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less
+ Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less
  When the system doesn't hang, I can see kernel OOM killing random processes
like calamares, cryptsetup etc.

  I had ~75% success of installing Kubuntu 24.04 daily on VMs with less then
3GB and almost 0% on 2GB VMs.
  Previous livecd installers had no issues with 2GB VMs and

  Once the system is installed it functions satisfactory with 2GB.

  I believe adding zram-config to livefs/casper would allow installation
  on systems with only 2GB of RAM.

  Note,
  Similar issue also affects other Ubuntu images so the issue is not calamares
specific.
  The problem first appeared around the time of switching to Kernel 6.8.
  I believe the issue is overlayfs related since that's the main difference
between livefs and installed system and there were a lot of changes related to
overlayfs.
