Thomas, I tried your patch as well and it seems to fix the problem for
me too. I have already uploaded a patched source to my PPA (though it
has yet to build).
Why don't you attach your patch to this bugreport so that it has more
chances to be applied to the package in Ubuntu main, and thus to
netcyrax, in this case unsupported files are actually broken ones, so
deleting them effectively is a solution. One of the troubles is, what
Rhythmbox reports is so obscure that it's hard to tell what's wrong.

Turns out that I did no grub-install after upgrading / to ext4, as

Thanks, Pedro. With ~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml removed I have
the same behaviour (except for the fact that it takes much longer to
rescan the library and naturally much longer for Install missing
multimedia codecs window to appear. Debug is attached.

Thank you for your answer, Sebastien. By now I have noticed that only
one *.txt file of all that happen to be in my library folder causes
Rhythmbox to search for a codec. I have reported a separate bug #343707
on this.

Rhythmbox keeps trying to install codecs

Every time I start Rhythmbox it asks me to search for a missing codec,
and never finds one. That's not surprising, as it searches for text/html
codec, which obviously does not exist.
I must say that of all the *.txt files that reside in my

After upgrade to Jaunty, Gnome-Do fails to start. Here is the console

Oops, I should have been more careful and do a little more thinking and
testing before reporting this bug.
I have just tried Gnome-Do under a clean user account (created for
testing purposes, nothing in ~/ but defaults), and it works with no
issues. Then I did some more search and found
* It is. I did sudo aptitude purge gnome-do sudo aptitude install
gnome-do, but the problem is still there.
* Well, just opening terminal and issuing the gnome-do command results in the
described behaviour on my system.
* 64-bit.

I'm really surprised this bug has low priority. Having a *.txt file
somewhere in the library I have to tell Rhythmbox not to try finding a
codec for text/html every time I start it — is that sane? I mean, every
time I start Rhythmbox I'm presented with annoying evidence that this
piece of software
I have already pointed out that the way this driver is currently
packaged it does not survive suspend-to-disk, either Ubuntu's default
way or via uswsusp, and after a wake-up the camera does not work any
longer (there may be other ways than reboot to reenable it, but I have
yet to find them). Is
