Update for you all. I forced systemd down to the 16.04 version,
reconfigured it and it was happy. As for upgrading it to the 18.04
version, YOU MUST PURGE THE ENTIRE /usr/lib/tempfiles.d/ DIRECTORY. One

systemd reconfigured. It now

running into however is that systemd will not reinstall. TBH WSL does
not require systemd to operate, but it defiantly makes the system angry

backported patch. the patch that is working for many users has no effect
on the system I am having issues with. PC boots to blank screen,
occasionally to recovery
My machine boots into a blank screen, except the times it gives me the
option to boot into recovery mode at boot up. Then if I run failsafex
graphic from the menu I get a decent GUI. Maybe the answer is to just
have a way to always boot in failsafe mode.

Thanks I'll follow this here. a lot of what is going back and forth on
these posts is above my head. I have tried a few boot options, like
putting i.915 modeset=1 and ...modeset=0 and nomodeset. with varying
poor results. I have also tried a few different ppa'a and trying to
force vesa driver. I
Flash content seems ok most sites. However consistent crash of the flash
plugin on youtube. affects firefox AND chromium (Chrome)

Here's the quickest way I've found (this requires that you've set a root
password):
* Edit the normal (non-recovery) grub entry, removing quiet,
splash,and vt_handoff. Optionally add --verbose.
* Press Ctrl-X and let the system run through the boot process until it
hangs.
* Hit SysRq-i, and

anacoluthon, a T42 Thinkpad that suffers from this problem.
When booting, I choose the normal (i.e., non-recovery) GRUB entry, since
the goal's to bring the system up. I edit the entry before booting,

EVOLUTION
I think this really is a bug with Jaunty. I notice other users are have the
same; and similar issues after upgrading. I have tried re-installing all the
codecs, the player software, and tried all the suggestions on the Medibuntu
worksheet. The only way to get video to play is to open multiple

external mouse is frozen on resume. Re-enabling the frozen external
mouse amounts to just unplugging and re-plugging it.

I also installed the 9.2 driver on a T42 with the Mobility 9600 M10. The
