On what basis is this being closed? I am aware of no fix to this except
disabling lighting in Compiz.

Sorry it was a mistake. I tested it in 10.10 and didn't initially see
it, but retesting it on a white background i see that the issue is still
there.

This is a well known bug (sorry), and it's not really an eZoom issue.
The basic problem is that the lighting normalization is plain Wrong[tm].
This can be seen in other ways too (try setting up a virtual setup with
10x10 monitors and grabbing a cube and you'll see the lighting is not
consistent).
It's a good idea to create videos of these bugs but this one is: The
video you have requested is not available.

In Ubuntu 8.10 i have to be zoom in extreamly close for this to have an
effect, maybe it's a feature and not a bug?
