Nobody cares? The problem is still there, any advice how to roll back
the installation of the hardware enablement pack? That would help a lot.
Thanks.

Speed seems to be erratic/unstable. With the network-manager applet I
see speeds from 5 Mbit/s to 54 Mbit/s. The commands
iwlist wlan0 rate
iwlist wlan0 bitrate
doesn't provide information about.
I read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx in
order to find a better solution
Workaround if you are running a Xenial kernel.

@chili555: The point is that my Broadcom wifi device works with Linux
kernel 3.19.0-69-generic (modules wl + cfg80211). But the kernel modules
won't compile in kernel 4.4.0-36 which was installed automatically in
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. In the description of bcmwl-kernel-source my wifi
chipset BCM4312
Also happened in ElementaryOS Freya (Based on 14.04 LTS) when installing
hardware enablement with Kernel 4.4.

@Martin Rasp - I believe your device will work correctly without bcmwl-
kernel-source but, instead, with firmware-b43-installer.

Have just recently installed Ubuntu MATE 14.04.2 LTS on a venerable HP
notebook. The install was done as Ubuntu 16.04 had failed miserably.
Today I got the notice regarding the need to install the new 16.04
hardware updater. N.B., yesterday that update went without a problem on
my older DELL PC
