Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: util-linux

cfdisk is apparently putting bad info on disk, but poking
the kernel correctly and directly when making large
partitions. Everything looks fine until the first reboot. I
hear this is a known problem with parted, but want to let
you know cfdisk is also affected.

To reproduce:

a) Get a terabyte drive
b) Make a giant partition on it + mount (I formatted xfs)
c) Everything is happy happy joy joy
d) reboot
e) partition is gone! udev doesn't make a device, manually
running mknod doesn't help. Bad!
f) re-run cfdisk (which sees the partition) and write it again.
g) everything mounts happy happy ... at least for this boot cycle
