I was looking at the gnome power meter's detailed-information display
previously and its power usage graph shows a brief spike up to 960W
power consumption. Possibly some smoothing is needed either in the acpi
core or in gnome's power meter.

This is still happening with the current edgy kernel, linux-
image-2.6.17-10-generic, 2.6.17-10.33
At the moment it's not causing hibernation, just bogus warnings that
your battery has 3 minutes left. This happens even after a cold boot.
