Neil, thanks for looking at this bug. Unfortunately I tried sudo aptitude update and sudo aptitude safe-upgrade and now gdm desktop won't display. I'm starting a re-install. I've been running earlier lucid right along, and it's dual booted with karmic which works. Thanks, Jerry -- lucid

I encountered the same error on karmic. Following this user guide: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1313472 The error appears after step 1: apt-get -y install slapd ldap-utils The /etc/ldap/scheme directory is empty. To resolve, I copied the .ldif files from another machine.
