Will a solution to the problem (backport) be made available to hardy?
I'd like to see NTP protecte since it's a very important service within
our network used all the time.

ntpd profile in Xubuntu 8.04 LTS is unconfined on boot

You received this bug
I have the same problem.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure samba-common doesn't work and returns the
message /usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: samba-common ist kaputt oder nicht
komplett installiert (/usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: samba-common damaged
or not installed completely)
Further I executed sudo winbindd -SF
I never changed the start order and as you already said the orderng is
correct. Further I noticed (on Xubuntu 8.04) and Ubuntu Server 8.04 NTP
being started and stopped during the boot proccess. I always thought it
was a normal behavior. ;-) What I found in /etc/network/if-
up.d/ntpdate though
1] I'm using Xubuntu 8.04 LTS right now, that's correct.
2] I can confirm AA linked as S37apparmor in rcS.d and NTP as S23ntp in
rc2.d, although I thought smaller numbers indicate a sooner start up.
3] Ich double checked the NTP configuration under /etc/ntp.conf. Do you
want to see it at
