Here is a new version of the patch. The patch now properly handles PhpBB3 variant of Phpass (See comments on stackoverflow for details). The patch has been tested on Ubuntu 12.04.1. ** Patch added: New version of the patch with a fix for PhpBB3.

Pelam Patch is a bit late for 12.10 as its really a features; I'd also like to see it accepted upstream first (note that you have already submitted which is great!). If it looks like its lagging in a couple of months then we can review again. Un-subscribing ubuntu-sponsors for the time being.
