This feature is already present in the current driver but due to
different configuration on different touchpads we can't make it set by
default. You will have to probe the best settings that suits you. See

I did a fresh install of 10.10 when it came out, and this began. I never
had this problem with 10.04.
The problem is, when booting (either cold booting or waking from
standby), the system works fine for some time, usually from 5 to 20
minutes.

Verification done on Karmic but partial on Lucid

2. use gnome-display-properties and find out X can not have monitor EDID

After further testing, I can reproduce this 100% of the time with the following
setup:
1) Laptop with external display attached and setup with xrandr (So 2 monitors
running)
2) Put laptop to sleep
3) Disconnect external monitor
4) Wake laptop
I am still experiencing this lockup at other times,
Mystery deepens. i had a spare partition so I tried a clean install.
It worked! So I turned on the proprietary FGLRX driver. It (setting
monitors to be non-mirror) stopped working. So I removed the driver in
Administration-Additional Drivers. It worked again.

Problem resolved once I found instructions for manually removing and
cleaning up after the proprietary FGLRX. For my card it doesn't seem to
be required anyway. Back to happy computing. YAY. It sure would be
nice to not burn hours to days fixing things on every ubuntu upgrade
though.

Sometimes (not every time) when I wake up my laptop from suspend X server
crashes and I end up in the login screen and the previous session is lost.
I went through several logs and it looks like X server crashes because of some
segmentation fault.
Accepted xorg-server into lucid-proposed, the package will build now and
be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See

So, let's make some updates then...
After this post, from that date, i try with different configs and stuff.
Finally, configuring xorg.conf with some modeline on the screen
section, i got to make the new driver work...but...
At the beggining, nothing wrong. A little more slow than Lucid, but
@Darik Horn's ppa worked a treat with my Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 400 card on
an old box with Lubuntu 10.10 installed.

I disabled my soud card (onboard) and everythings worked well. I didn't
have any problem. So it has to do something with the sound system or

I'm hitting this with Xephyr, just installing xserver-xephyr and trying
for example command Xephyr :2 triggers this assert:
Xephyr: ../../../../include/privates.h:122: dixGetPrivateAddr: Assertion
`key-initialized' failed.
xserver-xephyr version 2:1.9.0-0ubuntu7 on 32-bit Maverick with latest
Well, today I cannot reproduce my problem anymore.
I am dealing with a pool of six seemingly identical projectors (all EB-S6
model) but perhaps one of them causes the problem.
Please bear with me while I get my hand on each of the projectors and test them.

To amend my previous comment: it works fine when running Maverick
natively on my Thinkpad X60 (Intel 945GM GPU), but fails when running
inside VirtualBox with guest additions installed from virtualbox-ose-
guest-x11 package, as well as with the guest additions shipping with
nonfree VirtualBox.

I tried to troubleshoot by evtest, and the log files are attached.
the evtest-good.txt file was taken when the touchpad worked properly in X
the evtest-stuck.txt was taken while the pointer in X stayed at root
window(0,0) and can not be moved by touchpad.
