I have been using the 3.2.0-26.41 kernel for over a day now and do not
experience momentary system freezes anymore. Previously they were
happening pretty often and sometimes compixz/Unity could not recover.

When I installed the recommended AMD/ATI Radeon grapics driver from the
additional drivers program, no matter which (Unity) option I pick on the
login screen, it will load Unity 2D. I removed the graphics driver and
Unity 3D reverted back to it's proper
Thanks Darcy. That's a new one to me, but Google shows a lot of people
with the same problem using the fglrx driver.
I know there are installation and uninstallation problems with the fglrx
driver causing the wrong GLX libraries to be present and rendering
OpenGL useless.
