I just tried to use the ppa:mdeslaur/testing on ubuntu 12.04 (dont know
if it changes the behaviour for external monitor problem)

When calling the OpenGL function:
glLightModeli (GL_LIGHT_MODEL_TWO_SIDE, GL_TRUE);
there is no effect.
getting the value again with:
GLint value [1];
glGetIntegerv (GL_LIGHT_MODEL_TWO_SIDE, value);
the value is correctly
Here is a patch to apply this on Ubuntu.
I compiles and does not cause any misbehaviour, but I still need to test it on
the actual hardware. I will report back if it worked.

With a fresh install of 12.10, lifebook E8410 ( Nvidia 8400M G):
- default nouveau driver messes up screen (all kind of artifacts)
- latest closed source diver (from Nvidia 304.64 ) causes lockups both with
unity and gnome-shell
Focusing on the nvidia driver problem:

I see this same behavior without using nitrogen. I simply run a daemon
that regenerates the image nautilus is pointing to as the desktop
background periodically. After leaving it running overnight, I get the
same Maximum number of clients reached error. I can continue working
for a while by

I get pretty much the same errors in the dmesg log, but the X server
starts up and runs mostly alright, but after it's been running a while,
starts getting wonky, like it won't respond for a long time, then
suddenly comes back to life, but hangs intermittently from then on. A
reboot is necessary
