This is affecting my recent lucid install on a nvidia geoforce card on
an HP Pavilion DM3.
I hope that we can find a solution to this: having to reboot after
attempting to switch to a tty is hardly the point of accessing a tty.

I just upgraded from 9.10 (64-bit) to 10.04 (64-bit), and I'm having the
same problem now where as before on 9.10, I didn't have this problem. My
