You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.
If it's solved in the
Upgraded to 11.10 and switched to Lubuntu. Nvidia driver that was
installed with the upgrade seems to work fine (Nvidia version 280.13).

I have been experiencing this for quite some time. While I can not
reproduce it at will I can say that I am seeing some events that have a
higher probability of causing it.
- Konsole resizing. Especially if it is on the right hand monitor
- Vmware resizing. Especially when it crosses monitor

Same here. I have GeForce GT 220. My whole desktop freezes every other
day. It locks the whole X - keyboard, mouse, the image freezes and stays
on the screen. It is impossible to do anything from the local console.
The best thing I can do is to SSH from my laptop and do service gdm
restart.

I have also been affected by this.
My natty installation was working fine with the on board GPU on my HP dx2450.
However i added the Nvidia Quadro NVS290 to support my higher res monitor and
eventually move to a dual display configuration.
The new card works fine and appears in the nVidia
