I have a Dell latitude d505 laptop running Lubuntu 13.10.
When I close the lid, the screen becomes blank and the mouse cursor freezes
and can't be moved.
The backlight is still on but the system is completely unresponsive.
There seems to be a way to avoid laptop lid freeze.
I'm using Lubuntu 14.04 and it utilises Xfce power manager.
When it is used to monitor power events, lid close always freezes the laptop.
However, when you install acpi-support the freeze no longer happens but the
screen remains on when the lid

I didn't change anything, it just worked for some time and now it reverted back
to old behaviour.

One user gets the network indicator, the other one doesn't.
If I run:

Solution is to add an Indicator Plugin to the xfce panel.
