pressed Ctrl-Alt-F1, logged in on console and killed X. Now I have tried

On this system the VGA and HDMI ports work fine, but displayport
doesn't. Nothing happens at all when I plug in the displayport external
screen. The screen is a Dell P2210, it was tested to work fine on two
other systems (including another XPS 1340 with a different set of

HP Envy 15 3033cl Radeon HD 7690M, same issue. Was working fine with
Ubuntu 12.04, did a distro update to 12.10, through the console.
During boot it would automatically drop to the console, no GUI
