The last of the tearing in Compiz is being tracked in bug 1037710.
I know this bug is older, but I think bug 1037710 describes the problem
better.

It already appears to be enabled: Synchronization with vertical
refresh (swap intervals) is set to Always synchronize with vertical
refresh, application chooses the minimum swap interval.
I tried setting it to both Initial swap interval 0/1 settings, but all
three settings gave the same visible
Does setting synchronization in driconf have any effect? What's it set
to?
