to work around it in advance. Unnecessary calls from startup scripts is
a plague that slows whole system boot process. Checking shell error
codes would be the fastest and cleanest of all, but unfortunately vol_id
shares error

The only significant remaining modification in Ubuntu was to use
JAVA_HOME_DIRS := /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk
but since java-6-openjdk is now also the preferred java in the new

I figured out what the issue was:
This is related to Bug #191027 in totem, this is how I fixed my problem:
sudo rm -rf /tmp/* and a reboot
Now pulseaudio is back up and running and flash is responsive again.
This bug can be closed as it is not an issue with firefox or flash, but
pulseudio.

starts in full screen, it keeps been terribly slow.

Great that the fullscreen issue has been solved. I suspect the general
performance issue is pretty general and not specifically related to
Eschalon. The ubuntu X developers are looking at ways to optimize the
performance, but unfortunately it looks like it's a choice between speed
