Is it possible to use cloud images from popular Linux OS like Ubuntu or
Centos?
I have added them as templates but none of the boot on a new instance, the
bootloader is stuck at "Booting from hard disk..."

Using the amd64-disk-kvm.img
Normally when I create a VM the name is discoverable on the VPC, but I would to
add custom names/register under the same internal domain, is there a way to
achieve that?

Did you notice any error in secondary storage VM logs when downloading the ISO?
Are you facing this issue with a specific ISO? Can you reach that ISO url using
curl / wget for secondary storage VM?
Also, try to register ISO with different url, and see if you notice the same
issue.
