I updated one of the affected systems to kernel 6.0.18-200.fc36.x86_64 from updates-testing, and I was able to reboot (to activate the new kernel), login, do a "ls" on the CIFS mount on a tree that has many files, and then reboot again, all without issue. Thanks to all for the help! (see

It seems something more is going on. More testing needed, but I did NOT have anything running.  It might be that FF auto-restarted after reboot and that copy did not produce a window and I did not catch this. What I just did was terminate all FF tasks. Then started FF and got TWO FF windows
