Re: [videoblogging] video bulimia

2007-11-09 Thread John Oeffinger
I suspect we are going to see more and more of this. There was a CNET
story on 11/7 dealing with Ads and marketing. A recent survey polled
260 Ad agencies who said their current budgets for online media-they
call it conversational media vs. traditional media-was 2.5%. By 2012
they expect that percentage to be more than they spend on traditional
media. I suspect you will see much more product placement taking this
approach. It won't be subtle any more, it will be product features and
staged positive reaction.

[videoblogging] Fair Use principles

2007-11-09 Thread Jay dedman
Enric sent me this great link:
http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2007/10/fair-use-principles-ugc

Here's hoping that these proposals lead to real progress in striking
a balance between the interests of UGC creators, media companies, and
video hosting services.

Its a document that the EFF has prepared to explain how Fair Use
should be dealt with in online video.

The Fair Use Principles document describes a set of concrete steps
that service providers and content owners can and should take to
protect the remix culture that has been a foundation for sites like
YouTube. A critical component of the Principles is a detailed
description of a three strikes threshold before materials are
automatically blocked. In addition, the document includes a humans
trump machines rule, which is to say that users must be afforded the
opportunity to dispute and override the conclusions of automated
identification or filtering mechanisms.

show the long version just fine.

Anyway, great work!
