Hi,
 
I haven't encountered any problems with the Nimh batteries. Charging works
well, the cells don't get hotter than usual + the battery indicator in Mac
OS 6 on the Mac Portable works correct too. I don't see any reason to avoid
Nimh cells. 
Switching to Lithium-ion is another case where I fully agree with your
remarks.
 
Original batteries from the PB100 series for example were NiCad where
everyone replaces them with Nimh now.

I saw a huge red flag there in the last email. NiMH is a completely
different chemistry from what is in the portable ( I own four portable macs)
and each type of battery requires different methods of charging. Just be
careful out there!
