Hello Wikimaniacs!
For those of you who're in Hong Kong, come join Ivo Kruusamägi and myself
at 15:00 today (Thursday) (an hour later from now on. we can wait if you
reply) at Kwun Tong Station Exit A1 for some off-the-beaten-track

We implemented this idea last year at the WikiCon...
I am a strong believer that
I couldn't agree more with Risker. I'm afraid that such a huge preparedness
would damage the option that less experienced speakers can present too. I
also wouldn't be in favor of a lot of plenary sessions - my experience
tells me that at least *I* have been more often disappointed by a keynote
Without doubt, Wikimania HK has been a successful one.
For the first time, a Ghanaian from Ghana could attend the event. This
brings us much joy.
That wouldn't have been possible without the keen support of the local
organizing team in terms of Visa acquisition. Though through a lot of
I don't think plenary sessions would give that much. Au contraire, the best
thing about this year's Wikimedia Conference in Milan was the abundance of
workgroups and other open discussion forms. But in that case, too, every
session would win much if the participants had at least a chance to
Thank you all,
I enjoyed the lunch a lot and hope it was interesting for you as well.
Since we talked about the ED search and the questions you might have for
the candidates, here is the page you can leave them:

Next year, WMF and Wikimania London are hiring the company which got the
visas for everyone in London Olympics! Fingers crossed.
Also, unfortunately, this year we did have one person who didn't get his
visa on time. One is too many for Hong Kong! :(

I think I have to clarify a thing: the guy that couldn't get his visa
in time There was just one reason. he didn't send his documents in
time. It wasn't the committee's fault at all or policy of the
government

I've been
I was very happy with the amount of personal attention that Deryck paid to
the participants staying at the dorms, supported by his team at all times.
Well-rested participants are a key component of a well-organized event. (-:
A big thank you to Deryck and his team!

I am smiling at the idea that sharing one's notes images on the wiki
two weeks beforehand in advance is huge preparedness. :-) And I am
someone who is always working on talks the night before... But I have
notes/images/outlines, in one arrangement or another, well before
that.

I've been to three Wikimanias but not the last two, so my comments may be
out of date. But the format where you have multiple concurrent threads each
with three talks run one after another between breaks quickly gets out of
sync. It really needs a strong session moderator in each room who can end

Hi,
I in general liked 2013 wikimania schedule. It would have been better if
workshops are moved to the pre conference days.
