Building from the current source tree (e.g. a "nightly" build at http://cvs.apache.org/dist/soap/nightly/2004-06-22/) gives you a nice way to access configuration parameters when your service class is instantiated. The configure sample code (http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs.cgi/ws-soap/java/samples/configure/) uses this.
