Android may use a somewhat modified version of the Linux kernel (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_kernel ) but its runtime and semantics are not compatible with the “GNU/Linux” (or so called simply “Linux”) operating system - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_%28operating_system%29 . Namely, I was told that care was taken to avoid using any code copyrighted by the Free Software Foundation there. For some of the problems that people have run into with porting software that runs fine on Linux and other UNIX-like operating systems into Android, see: http://blogs.perl.org/users/sawyer_x/2010/10/leaving-android.html Regards, Shlomi Fish > _______________________________________________ > Support@pidgin.im mailing list Want to unsubscribe?
