Hi Robert, It sounds like you're after purple-remote ( http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/man1/purple-remote.1.html) which handles URI parsing and passing off to Pidgin. Different distros will include it as part of libpurple, Pidgin, or a separate package.
