I don't have FM 8....

But, is it possible that you have a character in your search that does not
match all targets?

I've been known to unthinkingly type a space after a string (or to accidentally
leave a leading space when I re-use a search box), causing the search to find
all occurrences of the string that are followed by a space, but to skip all
occurrences that are at the end of a sentence or that are followed by a comma
or semi. Same idea if you have "match case" selected and some occurrences are
at the beginning of sentences or in headings.

Similarly, if you have no-break-spaces in some occurrences of a string in yor
document but your search text looks only for a regular space...

Yeah, elementary, but it's easy to forget.
