First - I'm glad you got something, even if it is a small job.

Second - I agree with Bill - do it right.

If you have to "cheat" - cheat on the side of not numbering it at all but personally, I would explain to the company the limitation of the software (and tell them there are other tools that would allow you to automate this in the future if they ever want to migrate to one of those tools. For now, you are left with the option of numbering it incorrectly and possibly confusing the user...or doing it right...
