Primary Skills: J2EE Platform, Java, Oracle, SQL Data Access, Web Services # of Years Required: 4-6 Secondary Skills: MQ Series # of Years Required: 2-4 Job Purpose/ Description: * Develops using the J2EE platform; also required are OOP paradigm skills, as well as experience with J2EE APIs, protocols and development of multi tiered applications. * Examples of current J2EE application program interfaces (APIs) are EJB, JDBC, JMS, JNDI, JTA, etc. * Participates in complex / major efforts regarding the requirements analysis, design, development, and testing of computer programs and / or application components. * Strong ability to analyze functional needs that drive the analysis and technical design of quality technical solutions; recommends solutions that are aligned with business / IT strategies and complies with corporate architectural standards. * Serves as subject matter expert (SME) in assigned area. * Resolves complex application and technical problems. * May serve as departmental liaison to interdepartmental or interdivisional project initiatives. * Analyzes complex performance and capacity issues with systems / applications software and/or application components. * Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies. * Handles complex operational tasks and recommends processing and technology changes. * Strong ability to work collaboratively with IT staff on development, troubleshooting, and other technical efforts. * Performs software architecture and systems design. Tasks and Responsibilities: * Strong knowledge of programming / systems analysis, as well as quality assurance, prototyping, construction, integration, and migration functions; possesses a strong understanding of programming languages, development tools, and the current environment. * Displays problem solving and analytical skills, using them to resolve technical problems; possesses a strong understanding of business requirements and IT strategies. * Draws on broad knowledge base (e.g., infrastructure, technology, and applications) to analyze complex problems and contribute to troubleshooting efforts. * Leverages strong design understanding and/or capabilities (e.g., database, application code, reusable objects, and interfaces) to optimize development efforts in a distributed environment. * Good understanding of development technology used to support one or business operations areas. * May be required to coordinate small numbers of junior staff in the execution of projects.* Responds to direct questions from IT Management or the business on the effects of emerging technologies on product development and business directions; may provide buy vs. build recommendations or assist in platform determination. Required education/experience: * Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. * 6 to 10 years of IT work experience in systems programming / analysis * Typically experienced across two Information Technology areas or in a single system / applications software development technology across multiple computing platforms. * Practical experience of project management disciplines.
