This has probably to do with the BE cookie domain setting in the Install
Tool. You are only allowed to preview hidden pages if you are logged in
in the BE. To verify that the BE user session is checked and only if a
valid cookie is found TYPO3 is able to find that session.
You can specify the (sub)domain(s) for which the BE login cookie must be
valid.
