Public bug reported: The Epson Stylus CX3900 printer driver doesn't get installed automatically when it is plugged in.
So, there are really two problems: 1) Xubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, instead of recommending a driver at installation time, shows me a list (database) of options, with many Epson printer drivers to choose from. This is not user-friendly, and if I remember right, a previous Ubuntu version *did* recommend a driver. 2) Ubuntu doesn't ship with a fully working driver for this particular printer, even though the manufacturer provides an official and GPL driver for both CX3900/DX4000 models (http://www.avasys.jp/lx- bin2/linux_e/spc/DL1.do). Openprinting.org recommends the CUPS Epson CX3805 driver, even though it is extremely slow, and might probably be causing other problems I am troubleshooting right now. (http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Epson-Stylus_CX3900) I can provide any needed further documentation, if required.
