Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scim

I'm using scim 1.4.9 in Ubuntu 9.10

scim:
  Installed: 1.4.9-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1.4.9-1ubuntu2

I experience slowdowns when entering text in Firefox wherever text could be
entered: address bar, text boxes, the bookmark organizer's Search box, or a
text box on a webpage.
Characters appear slowly, like the system is unable to empty the keyboard
buffer in time. If I press a key for a few seconds and release it, characters
keep appearing for 1-2 seconds. If I press a key for, about 10 seconds, the
Firefox window goes dark (indicating it is not responding)
The 3 main process that takes up most of the CPU:
Xorg: 18%
Firefox: 16%
scim-bridge: 12%
Things get much worse if the scim-launcher is activated (and displayed in the
screen) Entering characters become more sluggish, scim-launcher and
scim-bridge takes 18% and 14% of CPU.

Killing scim with 'pkill -9 ^scim' solves the problem, but starting it
again (scim -d) brings the problem back.

I haven't experienced this in other softwares (jedit, gedit).

I'm not sure if this is a Firefox bug so I'm reporting it as a possible
scim bug.

** Affects: scim (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
