9.10's alternate installer allowed me to perform a similar setup.

/dev/sda1 - OEM Win Vista whatever (rarely used)
/dev/sda2 - LVM PV "lin"

lin-boot - ext2 ~64mb -o sync,relatime
various cryptsetup partitions: / /home swap

** Affects: grub-installer (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
