@Carl: Are you sure it is a E169? - Does it show up as such on the lsusb command?
@Roman: I had no problems under 9.04 with my E160G. Then problems began with 9.10. However, I noticed that my E160G showed up as E220/E270 on the lsusb command. Some of them were similar to your problems. If varied for me depending on the kernel I tested. I also applied a firmware upgrade for my modem which improved the situation for me but not completely solve problems.
