I see the same behavior.  Note that alt-F10 is the "toggle maximization
state" keybard shortcut on my karmic machine (dell inspiron mini 10).
And note that by default I have to hold "Fn" down as well  so the
function keys act as F- keys rather than volume controls etc.

So hitting Fn-Alt-F10 twice fixes the window size.
