I would venture the argument that a logarithmic scale would be the best
way to approach this.  The autoadjusting linear scale looks pretty, but
does little to convey useful information as to actual utilization or
throughput and is such just plain confusing.  I think most users are
probably interested in getting an idea as to the throughput of the
network or disk.  Setting maximums specific to machine could make a
pretty graph, but it also involves hidden differences in scale from
machine to machine.

Plus, it would be dead easy to implement.
