I know this report has long gone cold, but in case anyone else is still having this problem, I fixed mine today by following the instructions here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireTimeline/Fixes#Internal%20microphone . Basically, mute the left channel of the mic while leaving the right channel maxed, and it works. Not sure how/why that works.
