** Description changed: When new updates are available, say by doing 'sudo apt-get update', the new status is not immediately reflected in the indicator-session. After opening the menu from that indicator, it still says 'Software is updated'. Only after a while, the status is updated, suggesting there is some kind of time-out, in my finding approx. 1 minute. After re-login the status is reset and, again after the time-out - updated. + updated. Funny thing is, that after applying the updates, the status + *is* updated immediately. Apparently, then there is no time-out. My proposal would be that the status is updated every time the menu is drawn, or, even better, to remove the time-out.
