ok, i made an horizontal and persistent variation of the vertical-kde- appmenu:

Is also persistent so is easy to work with in apps like gimp, LO, etc.. Note the green button i borrowed from another mockup, so it could be made something else or look more like the kde appmenu. Another positive thing is that is not too hard to implement in a shorter period, unlike some other concepts.
