Public bug reported:

Sound plays initially on VLC, Movie player etc but cuts out after a time
anything from ten to thirty minutes for no apparent reason. The only
thing I can do to restore the sound is to close the application and
reopen the file. The problem has only arisen recently. Everything used
to work fine until a couple of weeks ago so it looks like an update may
have caused it.
