It looks like there isn't much enthusiasm to really fix this issue
without walking on razors edge between upgrading and braking packages;
so maybe someone with required skills can just create (if it is
possible) an extension at extensions.gnome.org with an layout indicator
allowing to change keyboard layouts or, at least, to be able to see
witch layout the user is using, making it easier to shortcut-switch
between them and writing passwords with the right layout?
